Headlining removal.

I want to remove the headlining in my car so i can have it recovered.Has anyone done this? It seems to be bonded around the back window but cant be to sure.Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm sure I read in another thread that to do it properly the rear window has to be removed.

i had to do the opposite having broken my rear window glass and had to cut out the broken bits of glass to get the new pane in. Suffice to say that the glass was actually glued in some places to the roof lining and the leather around the c pillars-excellent quality control as always! It was a pig of a job to do without damaging the internal trims.

The lining and leather extends quite a long way past the point at which you can see it from the inside of the car and is tucked roght down behind the glass so it will be difficult to get off intact. Im sure there is a way to do it but it is certainly beyond my skills

I want to do the same (last bit of tweed in the car!)

Was contemplating cutting the material near to the glass then getting the new material seamed in a nice way and then glue or velcro to the old material or roof ...

I havnt explained thus very well but am sure you should be able to do it without it sagging.

I really dont want to remove the glass as it will break and it doent leak at the moment...???

what do you reckon - theres enough obscured glass to hide it looking in from outside?

Just a thought.......To avoid taking out the rear glass, you know those Tile edging strips you can get at B&Q? Like a long strip with a U profile, with one 1/2 of the U being about 30mm wide, the other bit about 3 mm. Glue that along the edge of the window all the way across the rear of the roof, then tuck the leather into it, sure you have a strip of plastic, but you can get it in different colours/finishes and it might end up looking OK - havent got my car here so I cant go out and have a look, so maybe I'm talking noonsense

Yeah but to do the job properly the lining needs to come out.Its the pulling away from the bonding thats going to be the problem,and i really dont want to crack the glass.I might just leave and suffer the head lining as it is.

im going to have a go in th next few months .. got a full spare interior im going to get retrimmed
in red the swap them over - oh sounds so easy!! - will take loads of pics!
