You dont know how hard I resisited making a purile comment, but now its started.....

I think the change to upgraded cranks was lateish 97 but not sure of exact date, knowing TVR there was probably no exact date and an overlap of old and new coming out of the factory at the same time, just depending on which came to hand first. I see from your profile that you have a 97 so that doesn't help much. Mine's a Dec98 reg so I have always blindly assumed I was kinda in the clear but would like to know if there is a definitive way to check. Ergo I am all

Unless you can get a view inside the block, you won't be able to tell. Not sure if you can see enough to tell with the sump off.

First reg in May 97, although SimonKD`s records say Dec 31st 97. It`s got a full hisory and to my knowledge never had any major engine surgery.

I think that all the 4.5's have the larger diameter, and the casting process was improved in the end of '97 to cure the snapping problem with the 4.2 crank.
I think only the last few 4.2's had 4.5 'fat' cranks and then probably just to use up parts.
As ther are folks who've suffered a snapped crank and have replaced with a 4.5 one, the block has to opened out / re-linebored to take it

mine had engine change by TVR about 4-5 years ago so mine should be ok

If it is December then you could be alright but who knows, anything with a 97 build could be either I suppose and seems no REAL way of knowing what is inside without stripping it down. Part of me thinks that if it has got through to 2006 without going then what is to worry about, but then I think there have been 1 or 2 fairly recently that have let go nd mentioned on here. Bit of a lottery.
