this will be of use to me and probably anyone looking at a cerbera, can you put

model (sp6 4.2 or 4.5)
cost this year so far (including servicing... id be very intersted how much people pay for the 6 and 12k servicings and the tapet adjutments as well)
where you live (as it would mint to meet someone with one that can help me out with hints and what to look for etc)

Owned for 2 year until I sold a few weeks ago. Total cost of running over 2 years ex insurance and tax, £16,000.ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Did include, new engine, new clutch, new gearbox, and countless other things. not much more could go wrong with it so the new owners should have happy motoring!!

With a little luck and a bit of tlc you can run a Cerb on a budget, but you have to be prepared to fix it yourself, which with the help available on here is not too hard

Other than the Clutch failure (broken fingers), I have had no breakdowns (touching coffee table)

Although - it did have around £3K spent on it just before i bought it. Oil leak that needed the engine to come out. Oh, and £4.5K due to some crazy woman in a rover running into me the other week....... 3 more weeks to go and ill have her back (If Ian at Torque RVT gets his finger out)!

I hate to say it, but buy a 4.5. I'll got an SP6 - absolute brillant car but has cost over £14000 in 2.5 years.

You just can't beat the exhaust note on the AJP8.

replace one coil pack and wiring to both
fitted new air intake pipes.

And then yesterday

Starter gone again.Cost as of yet unknown.

Replaced leaking front crankshaft oil seal.
Reverse light inop - replaced faulty reverse light switch.
Sent exhaust to Blueflame for repair to brackets.
Refit with cats.
Retune.
Send for MOT test - pass.
Added water wetter additive to coolant system, bled system. Checked cooling fans operation - OK.

Recommended;
Rear tyres worn to limit.
Driveshafts boots perished.
Lip spoiler missing.
n/s door rubbing paint.

Wiper fault - replaced worn wiper arms, investigated fault to motor. Motor on back order.

AA'd back home and HHC collected the car a few days later.
Turned out to be a failed throttle sensor. Replaced and now OK.

Fitted new exhausts intermediate pipes and blueflame sports tail pipes. Adjust, modify and alaign tail pipes.
Carried out engine tune, set up on lap top computer.
Replace damaged throttle return spring.
Replaced ECU chip with upgrade, wired in octane switch to ECU and mounted switch in dash.
Repaired fractured bonnet hinge, refit and align bonnet.
Refit all panels under bonnet and chassis plates.
Fitted new number plate.
Replaced fractured O.S.F A.R.B drop link.
O/s door release switch inoperative, replaced switch and connectors.
Road test.

Fitted silicone coolant hose set, filled with anti-freeze.
Fitted re-con starter motor.
Fitted magnecor ignition lead set.
Replaced worn p.a.s flange and woodruf key. Refit p.a.s pump.
Refit inlets, replaced o rings.
Refit gearbox, propshaft etc.
Refit airboxes and inlet hoses.
Red rose engine upgrade.

Friday 23rd April 2004 Major Breakdown (32,608 miles)

Disaster.

Collected car from HHC following major service. 100 yards up the road and oil pressure fell to zero and power steering failed.

Managed to return the car to HHC. Went home in a courtesy car, really fed up.

HHC phoned a few days later and informed me that the jack shaft that drives the p/steering and oil pump had sheared and it was an engine out job to rectify.

As the engine removal costs were covered under warranty I decided to have the Red Rose conversion done at the same time.

Totally fed up as the service was a totally pointless exercise.

Carried out 12,000 mile service.
Check valve clearances. No adjustment required.
Adjusted timing chain tension.
Replaced inlet air hoses.
Replaced leaking radiator with new spec unit.
Replaced oil pressure relief valve and spring.
Scraped and cleaned chassis and coated with waxoyl.
New valves fitted to rear wheels and balance checked.
Set up engine tune on lap top computer.

Recommended to do:

Air con inoperative due to fractured pipe.
Wiper arms worn.
Starter motor required.

Adjusted spring bases to raise vehicle ride height.
Reset damper settings.
Carried out 4 wheel laser alignment check. Adjusted camber angles and tracking.
Pressure tested coolant system. Tightened hose clips as required. Various leaks from hoses, thermostat housing, dual gauge adaptor & radiator. Added leak sealer to system.
Adjusted seat slide release rod on drivers door. Road test.

Recommended work:

Oil leak from crank rear seal.
Coolant leaks.
Water in drivers footwell.
Bonnet hinge requires repair.
O.S.R tyre valve cap seized.

Took the car to Hexham Horseless for a check up after buying from David Geralds as I wasn't convinced it was 100%. There were a few strange noises that had developed and fairly bad vibrations around 90mph (felt like a wheel balance problem).

Report from HHC:

Moved manifold away from chassis to prevent contact.
Knocking noise from streering rack - traced to worn n/s steering arm. Replaced steering rack track rod to n/s and reset tracking.
Checked all levels
Replaced exhaust hanger.

Recommended work:

Ride height too low
Dampers too firm
Gearbox oil leak.

Last cerb = £13K for repairs and service excl tyres, ins etc = £13K in 2 yrs
Second cerb = £3K in 18 months. About to spend up to 5K on engine work.
