Idle Question.

Occasionally the idling speed on the car will sit at around 1100 rather than 950 'ish as it should? It will also occasionally rev slightly and repeatedly by itself: 950 up to 1100 as though I'm blipping the throttle slightly (I'm not honestly 
). As I've said all this happens only occasionally - often after some spirited driving. Apart from all that it's running fine. Any ideas? Thanks

My idle is 800 to 850rpm when warm (is this low?)
When the engine is started from cold, she will not hold idle, just stalls immediately when the gas is released. Even sitting around for a minute or two giving a few revs does not rectify this, but as soon as I engage gear and drive 300yards or thereabouts the problem is magically resolved and will not rear its ugly head again until the next cold start.
Any ideas on that one?

This could be due to the gear box being cold too, try pressing the clutch down when you start the car, and see if the revs keep up.
My theory is that when you have drove the few hundred yards you was on about, this would have warmed enough to not have enough drag to stall the engine.
Just a thought.

Oh dear, back to the drawing board. I thought it might just be a throttle pot or similar issue.

I have a similar problem. Starts easily enough and idles but will always (try to) stall at the first three or four junctions I stop at. Only happens in winter, only if the engine is dead cold.
I've tried to have it investigated but you only really get one cold start a day so it's a tricky devil to diagnose.
I work round it with a combination of heel-and-toe and cunning timing at junction approaches.
to change them when the short induction pipes show up.

Yep me too! Mine then idles at around 500 and gradually goes upto about 850rpm when fully heated through...
