Alarm issues

Three months of ownership and no problems, then this morning open up and start, no problem. Leave the car to warm up for a few minutes then go back, open the door and the alarm starts sounding (engine still running). Turn engine off, then can't lock it. I kept trying this for a little while until I guess the neighbours were really quite fed up.

Left it for a couple of hours, then got in. Door opened no problem, started no problem, but the indicators were flashing and the scary green led on the dash was lit up. After a few minuted in the car with the engine running (reading the manual, not much help) turned it off and got out. Alarm went off as I opened the door. Alarm ran its course, then as I was sctraching my head again I tried the key fob and it worked. It locked! Tried it again, it unlocked! It's a miracle I thought. Another few tries and starts ups and it still seems to be fine.

A long winded story leading up to the question should I be concerned, should I get it looked at or is it another TADTS.

I've had a few intermittant problems myself.

I found that sometimes when I started the engine, both indicators would flash and that was an indication that at some time the alarm would go off (happened this morning after driving for 3-4 minutes).

I'm finding my key fobs are giving me problems, so I may have to pay a visit either to Carl or a TVR dealer.

I spoken with Carl over installing a radio system into my TVR and he is very amenable, and I'm sure if you rang him he could advise you.

I had issues earlier in the year (I was being locked out) in the end I needed a new control box - haven't had any similar problems since.

Try checking the door switches they're located on the underside on the door itself and are adjustable and can come loose, they work on a magnetic principle so they need to be set with a small gap. I use a sheet of paper folded once and use that as a feeler to check the gap with the door closed

The key fobs Carl supplies are far superior to the TVR ones, dangerous thing to do, to wait until you only have one key fob left working.

It only took Carl 10mins to sort & recode a new fob.

Thanks for the comments, I think a call to Carl on Monday as I only have the one fob. Looking at his website, I might get the sound system upgraded as well.

I opened up one of my key fobs myself and it would seem that the problem was bad connection and not battery, it is now working fine. I wouldn't take the risk with the only one that works but might be worth a go with the one that doesn't work.

My alarm problems were related to the way in which I start the TVR, occassionally when I press the key fob in order to disable the immobiliser so that the start button works, the immobiliser was engaging as if I was locking the car.

Strange thing is the alarm/immobiliser didn't engage until a couple of minutes later. I assume that this is common to all TVR alarms?
