REV COUNTER

Can someone just give a simple explanation of how the revs of the engine are transferred to a needle on a dial. Pictures would be good, but any info would be much appreciated.

Theres a sensor on the engine that gets triggered once a revolution, that info is sent to the rev counter to display the reading. Easy really.

Well apparently its something to do with electricty, and bits of wire that are coiled up and create a resistance which makes them glow - I don't believe it meself, but thats wot a bloke in the pub told me.

Very nice, but I think that's a little too simple. What I meant was can you explain the whole system in simple terms? so that it's not confusing...

Most amusing, but the reason I want to know, is that I wondered if there are any mechanical bits in the line that may be causing my ticking noise as in another thread. However, before I take the dashboard apart I thought I'd ask if any decent TVR owner may just take two minutes to quickly explain it simply...

Its done by induction, purely electronic. no mechanical bits I'm afraid. Your ticking is elsewhere
