Anyone have spare 4.2 intakes??
Discussion
I would be interested, although I only really need the butterfly plates. The reason is when I rebuilt the engine, I chamfered the plates thinking little of it, but its created noticable imbalance across some cylinders at idle. This isn't too bad when the engine is warm, but when its cold its kangeroos badly. Also at the moment I've got my idle screw fully in and it still idles at 1050rpm!!! To put it into perspective Bell Hill want £250 for a pair, and so I kindly declined their offer. Don't want to start a bun fight over them though, I was just trawling to see if any were lying around not doing much. Does anyone know where I can get some butterflies from that would do the trick, I've no idea where to start looking for TVR throttle butterflies!! I did call a carburettor specialist but he said that all makes have subtly different closing angles and thicknesses etc...

Most Butterfly plates have a varying chamfer so they seal in the bore at an angle.
How about taking one along to a carburettor specialist like Aldon automotive to see if they got anything which matchs up

Although it sounds impressive to have a varying chamfer around the edge, I'm pretty sure my AJP hasn't, or at least I didn't notice it when they were out last.
But why try so hard to ensure a complete seal, you only have to make a hole again to get the car to idle. Good seal yes but chamfered edge super seal, the only reason I could think for that would be to help the butterfly not stick on closed?
Julian, you'd be surprised just how sensitive the idle is to the slightest of gap around the throttle butterfly, as I was. The synchrometer reads up to 10 units, and most cylinders are drawing around 6 units at idle, but one is nearly 10. This is with a common butterfly spindle angle. As a result that cylinder is spitting back a little at idle, and its pushing the adaptive on that bank up to 10% as a result. Plus as I said, with the idle screw fully out the car is idling at 1050rpm. I was reading the post reference drilling through the screws to balance individual throttles at idle, which is a good idea, but it also highlights the airflow past the butterfly at idle must be very very small. I think TVR Power may be able to help, spoke to Dom and he is going to check with the factory.
