Little black box ?

Washed the new car for the first time yesterday, and noticed a small back box about the size of a match box on a bracket under the rear valance, between the exhaust, believe it had a cable to it.

Just got the car out of the garage and noticed a similar box on the front, under the number plate.

Any ideas what these are ? Ice sensors ?

(Drag strip timing devices ? ! I hope not....)

I reckon it will be a laser diffuser. I have one on the front of my Cerb and its about the size of a matchbox, and black. Lucky you.....

I like the idea of a laser diffuser - sounds cool.

I guess its some kind of anti speed camera thing ?

Yes, normally you only have one at the front, but some put one front and one back incase they try and hit you from the rear. Does it have a 'lens' type face pointing rearward? If so, its a laser diffuser. Mine is a LRC 100, plenty of pics on the web.

Looks to be the same images as returned by googling LRC 100. I noticed there is an additional socket in the dasn next to the immobiliser - is this a connection for them ?

If so what would I need to plug into them to make it work ( Camera Dector wise ? )

Paul, are you sure you haven't got one at the front of the car as well then? If you haven't got a small metal switch to arm it, it may be hardwired into a live ignition feed. When you arm it, you should be able the hear two beeps, and the led (small red) should flash with the beeps. Most police take you head on, so I'd be surprised if you didn't have one at the front, around the number plate area. Its a good investment but I've never ever been hit by laser yet, and so haven't been able to prove it works in anger. Apartently there is someone who can do a test, but I'm not sure what the fee is, or have any contacts. Also, I believe its illegal, but its the same technology as used in automatic garage opening devices, so should make an interesting court case if it ever comes to that.
