Selling advice

I'm thinking about selling my Cerb to finance a printing press that i have been offered. But which is the best way of advertising it, i realise i can put it on pistonheads but there's a lot on there at the mo, or do i go down the ebay route or autotrader. I also have the original 4.5 engine for a spare, do i advertise that with the car or seperately. Just been out in it this afternoon and it's evil in this weather, which got me thinking about test drives etc, there's no way i can let just anybody drive it in this weather. so come on what do i do ??

After driving mine to work this morning, i have to say that unless they give you your full asking price in cash and sign a disclaimer saying it's all yours if they crash it, don't let anybody test drive it....

you take them out and if they don't want the car then tough.

I bought mine without driving it but had been in enough to tell it was a good one, plus the owner took me out in the wet in it and i didn't even bother to ask for a drive as i knew what the answer was

Jeez Paul, another top 4.5 up for sale so soon!!! And after all that development on the engine too!! I'd say your spare 4.5 would best be sold on ebay with a suitable reserve, and try to advertise your car as a 'special'.

4.5 engines go for good money. I have heard of £2K right up to £7K ! I would think that somewhere in the middle might be what you get for it?
Your 5ltr car is interesting (engine, brakes, suspension....). No idea what premium that will get on the market. I suspect you will struggle to get a premium for it outside of pistonheads.
A decent 98 4.5 is stuggling to get 17K presently and so I would suggest that you will get something slightly higher than that albeit someone who is really into the 'ultimate' cerb might pay a higher premium? I know if I was in the market that your car would be on my list !

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm in the market to buy. Do I expect to be able to drive the car during initial viewing?... well, no frankly. Not until I've paid at least a deposit, if not the full amount. However, I *do* expect the current owners to declare anything that I might find during a test drive. Dodgy clutch, crap brakes, etc. If, once I got behind the wheel having paid *something* towards the selling price, I found something amiss, I would certainly dispute it.

Having said that, the adverts I've picked up on within Pistonheads, are well written and detail a lot about the cars. I've exchanged emails with both owners, and spoken to one on the phone. Both have already indicated the downsides of their cars, so I know what to expect up front.

Since starting my search for a Cerby, I have read this forum from end-to-end, so I'm aware about one of the cars I'm already looking at (regular contributor) and I've read a little about yours too Paul. I have to say I'm very interested if you're considering selling it, and I'm also interested in the spare engine. Obviously it all comes down to price, but I'd be happy to talk to you about it via email if you prefer.

Thanks for you words of wisdom, i bought the car with no test drive, so we'll have to see. I have no idea how much it's worth now, i know i will never get back whats gone into it, but hopefully will do a deal with someone who wants a tuned Cerb and plenty of spares.
