Hiya, At the moment I have a "standard" 4.2 with the sports pipes, makes lots of pop, crackle and bang but I just woulddn't mind a little flash or visual clues at the end of the pipes to go with the really big bangs. I'm not talking about spitting 4foot flames or anything, just a little bit of muzzle flash.

you will find that you already get flames spitting from the exhaust, but you can't see them when your driving

I believe the best results are gained from decatting the exhaust and running high octane fuel, such as the 99 octane at Tesco's etc. To get a flash etc means you are effectively lighting unused fuel in the end of the exhaust.
Other advantages of this are that you don't have the cats heating the gearbox, car etc but you do have to put them back in to passs an MOT.
On the boy racer cars.
Some of the kits you see to do this that throw the flames out the rear, do it with a spark plug or ignighter wired into the tailpipe along with a coil and electronics to make and break the circuit to generate the spark and usually the car running rich. Rev the car and on overrun hit the ignighter and you get flames. The big flames usually have some sort of fuel thrown in as well. I've seen butane, propane and petrol injectors used.
I don't think you'd have to go this far as you actually have a performance car, not trying to make your 1.2 nova look like one

Oh aye! I did the dartford tunnel. Backed right off, windows down... foot down, prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuup pop pop bang bang crackle boom.
Anyone know of a decat thats quick (ish) to change over once the motor is up on ramps?
All decats are the same to remove and refit ie remove under belly plate, unbolt cats, bolt in the bypass pipes and refit the under belly plate. Dont think there is anyway round this EXCEPT to cut a perm hole in the under belly plate to ease access. My old cerb had this set up BUT I was advised that this was cr@p and had a new plate fitted.

My old 4.2 used to shoot the odd flame or two out the back.... the day I found out I nearly wrapped the car round a tree as I was laughing soooo hard:
Coming down a dual carriageway I know very well, doing about 50, boy-racer-child comes upbehind me at warp speed. I couldn't see anything as he approached with his multiple foglights and shiny bits glaring into the rearview. However, he then came so close I could no longer see his lights as we went into a narrow bend where the two lanes merge into one, thus he was stuck behind me. The only way I could see him was by noting his LED-equipped window washers...
Anyway in a childish mood myself, I decided to drop a gear or two and boot it when the road straightened up - and in dropping the gear I saw two flashes in quick succession up over his windscreen and he back off as if he'd lobbed an anchor out the back! Strangely he never came close to me again for the rest of the dual carriageway, despite me sitting at a steady 70, with no one else around....
At that point I realised the sports exhausts were worth more fun than just the noise
