Tramlining

My cerb was tramlining quite a lot and even worse if i was doing say 10mph and let go of wheel you could see the wheel twitching a lot and the car would move around a lot - the front end felt very unstable and gives no confidence.

The car went to Jools at TCS who fitted no new suspension but set the alignment of the wheels up and he said the wheels were toeing out a lot.

The car fel solid as a rock when i picked it up and ever so smooth on the road.

However it has got worse again now

Any idea what it could be? tyre pressures are equal and spot on, tyres aren't visibly badly worn.

I jsut want my cerb to feel how it did again

any ideas what could be worn, track rod ends maybe to cause this?

no falkens on front and goodyear f1's on rear

Had the same prob with the S03s tramlining all over the place.

If it's toeing out then that will cause it.

Get the tracking sorted.

I've had the tracking sorted already and within a short space of time it's doing it again

soooo i don't want to have to get the tracking done every 200 miles, could something else be wrong causing it to keep toeing out?

Chesk your pressures but I would have said castor angle needs looking at. In other words has something bent or altered.

Having said that I've set my car up about ten times now. Perfect for a couple of hundred miles and then starts going wonky again. I've never really worked out why, none of the settings seem to have moved

Julian - interesting you say yours keeps changing after 100 or so miles

i havent hit anything so don't think i've bent anything but it was fine when i bought it, just got gradually worse makes it not as nice to drive

In that case I'd check the following.

Tyre pressures
Steering rack for play
Rack UJ's for play

It could also be a leaky shock. it might be worth checking them

Some time back I had problems getting the settings.

Eventually these are the ones I used and it is a lot happier now.

Camber Degrees - 0.5 to 1.25 negative both front and rear

Caster Degrees - 3.5 to 4.5 positive front (rear n/a)

Toe Minutes - 10 to 20 in, both front and rear.


Mine's a '97 4.2
