overheating

temp got very hot today round to 110 so was getting a bit pannicky its never done this before checked water its ok and the fans where running ok but i dont know when they came on is there any way to check if fans are working correctly? any help much appreciated

I'd say check your water temp sender, cos it's that that tells the ecu to turn on the fan/s, if you have the diagnostic software check the water temp is reading somewhere normal.

Agree with Killerscum... the Cerb temp gauge is notoriously inaccurate. Mine reads about 15 degrees high. This is probably because the capilliary tube is routed rather close to the manifolds and in most cases cable tied to the off side water rail, giving a false reading.
The best way to check the temps is to hook up a laptop to your ECU and see what temps really are and when the fans come on.

Fans shold kick in at 91 degrees(actual)which is about 100 degrees on gauge,check contacts on sender are not corroded,clean them up & this should sort problem.

Or you can just re-route the capillary tube away from the manifold, only takes 10 minutes and the guage suddenly becomes slightly more useful. Just remove the f1 panel (6 allen bolts and a bit of top hose wiggling) to expose the swan necks and just to the right (head-on) of the water bottle is where the capillary tube screws into the pipework. Remove any existing cables ties along it's length to see how much slack you have and then re-tie from the pipework end so it's well away from the manifolds and water pipes. I did this when I replaced the system and hooked up the laptop for a comparison and the guage was within a degree or 2 of the ECU. Highest my guage goes now is 95-6.

To check if the fans are working correctly, while the F1 panel is off and the ignition is on, just next to where the capillary tube enters the pipework is the ecu temp sensor. Unplug the lead and the fans should then come on automatically.

If the rad fan has stopped working, a TCS chip won't do much

I tried rerouting my capilliary tube as far away from any heat sources as i could and it made very little noticable difference to the reading. Still reads about 12C over. I have the TCS cooling chip too and i think the fans come on at about 86C instead of the standard 92C and 94C.

mine over heated last summer but mine dumped some water aswell

i bled it and it has been fine ever since

Ever since I took the horizintal panel out which separates the suspension and pipes from the engine compartment mine has stopped getting overly hot !
Anyone else tried this ?
