I have an electrical problem. Been looking through the previous posts and done a search but none specifically covers my particular problem so i thought i'd ask you guys.

Whilst out driving - the indicators went very fast then cancelled then returned to normal. It was then fine for an hour.

Then the headlights, indicators, hazards and instrument lights went.

The hazards/indicators still flash for the alarm, the main headlight beam works, the interior courtesy lights work, the reverse lamp, radio, lights, doors, windows, brakes, heating all work.

Using the posts made me check the light controller box in the boot and there is only one midly burnt connector. I took the box apart and the connector on the box side looks a little worse going down to the PCB.

My concern is that all the info I have read on these forums have never mentioned the indicators AND headlights failing together.

The indicators box/connectors is fine.

Anyone else had this? Do the lights and indicators share connections? Where should I start looking? I don't want to start drilling into the lght box and soldering new wires and connectors if this isn't the problem. Would anyone recommend simply getting a replacement light box rather than hacking about with the wiring loom? I understand they aren't too expensive.

Sounds like main control box that is located under the dash, but above the steering column (black box)

Is this similar to the boxes in the boot - ie velcro'd on with a plug connector to the wiring loom? Again, would you recommend throwing away and plugging in a new one - don't fancy soldering up there.

Yes it is a black box type like the others, stick yourself under the steering column in the drivers footwell and look up, you'll see it either velcro'd or tie wrapped near the column.

Best to replace it rather than faffing around soldering.

I would go through your fuses and check each one.

I had a very strange set of headlight/indicator occurances last year, it took me and the AA man a total of about 4 hours to find that just one blown fuse was the cause.

It was very bizarre. Made a good pub story for the AA man though.

yep, blown fuse No.4, although when replaced and the headlights were used it blows again, i'll get a new light box methinks.

just spent the last hour replacing the main element in my oven, an easy job in comparison!
