CERBERA wanted

i use to own a 2000 reg 911 cabriolet ..before that an M3 and before that an audi s4
the 911 was great a real drivers car..the m3 great speed and handling but twitchy steering in comparison to the porsche and the s4 felt better than the beemer.

Now i want a cerbera....firstly and obviously far more power ..secondly i think the cerberas have far more character//

guys can u help. i want a 2000 or 2001 model..is this when the upgrade happened...?

secondly ..i think i want a 4.5 ...is this the one./..??

thirdly.....how much should i pay for one.....i have noticed that for example prices on piston are far higher than on topmarques......?


fourth what options do i need....i love music in the car...is the noise so much i cant hear...

I'd recommend a black 4.5LW 2000 Not sure on the exact details of when updates happened - but mine is an X plate and has the Tuscan seats, bigger windscreen view, lightweight panels, big spiders & Tuscan style pod lights (not fared in). I think newer cars have the smoothed in pod lights.
Usual advice is that straight out of the box the 4.2 & 4.5 are the same (possibly 4.2 is quicker?), with a remap the 4.5 gets more. You should find some to testdrive & see what you think.
They are loud when you open them up but it is possible to listen to stereo - quite a few people on here have upgraded with amps & sub etc so I guess its worth doing if thats your thing.

Mine's not for sale & I couldn't say what its worth: the market I would guess is a bit unpredictable right now what with the craziness at the factory. You need to have a look at a few & judge it from there.

The changes to model designation frequently happened over a period of time with TVR, but 2000 is generally acknowledged as the start of the lightweights. The LW designation is deemed to be fairly meaningless in terms of actual weight saving, but the seat/pods/windscreen surround pieces are all useful changes. I find the windscreen change over the earlier cars particularly useful given my height.

4.2s are considered to be smoother to drive than standard 4.5s, and the performance difference is marginal for most normal drivers. 4.5s definitely more tweakable though.

Oh, and black 2000 4.5 LWs rule...

I think the first rule of Cerbera colouring is to clash with your surroundings not merge.

I have owned a 996 and a Cerb at the same time and the Cerb is a much more exciting car. You will have to be very careful as the smallest mistake and it will bite, with no drivers aids at all!! I was tracking a 997 (much better than the 996) last weekend and I made some terrible gear changes, that the Cerb would not have allowed me to get away with.

I bought the Speed 6, as I planned more long distance driving than track racing and it's a great cruiser at 110-120 mph on the autobahns and(I guess), could also be tried at home.

Overall the biggest difference is that you have to 'drive' a Cerb rather than being 'driven' as in a 996.

You can get a great one for sod all. It is easy to buy a bad one. So I would look at 99/99 4.5s at 16 - 17Kish myself. If you have got more cash then 20K plus buys a great 4.5 lightweight. If you are spending less than 16k then be prepared to look at more cars.

A good '99 model with plenty of extras will be between £16k and £19k dependant upon condition and upgrades. Even if mine sells for it's asking price it'll still be a bargain............
