A match made in heaven?

I'm thinking of another project to build a more docile cerby, this time a quicker turnaround and a daily driver....

Any views?

hmmm scratchchin
I'm serious about it too

any donor cars out there? (I already have the engine and drivetrain )

with 4wd?? Awesome...

Not sure how compatible the engine layout will be though, arent you better with a skyline or similar?

Already have the GT stuff, so its easier from that angle. But also, a skyline engine in a cerb doesnt have the spark? you know what I mean...
the 3000GT engine has always been an underrated beast, so thats what gave me the idea.

Its a V6, should easily drop in, wont be able to use the getrag box though, but a t5 with the right adaptor may just work...

naaa, no 4WD, that'll require a new chassis, and isnt a simple task in time terms, I need a simple transplant operation....

lets see, I got all the bits, will need some custom ali-brackets etc fabricated to mount thing in etc... and a new bellhousing/clutch kit... and thats it, will hopefully be able to keep the cerbera dash and electrics as is, just everything engine side transplanted...

Not sure how well that would work... My view was... old skyline, cut away body... weld in substantial cage/ make sure it was all sturdy as censored and then place Cerb body on top + interior etc etc..

There was a thread on here ages ago where an MOT failured 200SX was cut away and a Morris Minor body was placed on top/ the frame was then substantially re-inforced... creating a very bizarre/ awesome drifter (IIRC, maybe just a sleeper?) - hell, theres almost a complete body/ interior in the classifieds for very little money.

Let me know your thoughts on the above ash, always imagined it to be a pretty good idea, especially since seeing the 200SX done. bounce Damn, even im getting excited over this, its not even my project!!!

Why dont you finish the beast first?spin. To be honest with all the talk of what your car is going to be capable of,dont you think building something else will be just a pale comparrison on what you will have achieved once the Phoenix is finished?

Be very interested to hear how it goes on a T5 and 3.45-1 diff, cos i drove my mates 3000gt and i thought it was geared all wrong, plenty of power though, but i reckon my stage 1, 3 door cosworth would have killed it to 100mph, and they have T5's and 3.62-1 diff,

Pretty sure that's a non starter, its designed as transverse engine so oil issues spring to mind. Plus they are not the most reliable!!! lots of head/tappet/top end problems.

However I can recomend one of these...

Docile Cerby, that'll be the one fitted with a Ford 2.0 diesel, good fuel economy for a daily driver, reliable and as an added advantage, it'll sound like an AJP on start-up. hehe

A collegue had a tuned 3000Gt pushing over 400bhp, but it's geared all wrong. He can hardly use 1st gear, 2nd is longer but still feels wrong. It's quick but my Cerbera leaves it standing.

He still has to use optimax and has a dash like a starship with all the guages, ecu addon's etc to keep the fueling correct.

Im sure we talked about a skyline or other ricer engine as an option along with the BMW six thats already been done - there was talk of witchcraft and burning at the stake.

As I always say each to there own ... I would concider a simpler transplant but keep my AJP to retro fit when they become silly money.

I had a lotus elan with a 2.5l straight 6 triumph engine fitted - was a beast - certainly got all the lotus crew sucking thru there teeth and shaking thier heads - part of the appeal for me!

A BMW six pot deisel should be concidered I reckon!

Dont forget these 3000GT's weigh in over 3803lbs!!!! Remarkably, in stock form they can consistently deliver 1/4 miles in around the 13 second bracket.
As for a cerbera leaving them behind, the cerbera will leave MOST cars behind when already rolling, no body can screw with the 3-headed guard dog of hell but next time try a standing start hehe thats when these jap 300+bhp AWD's leave you behind for a good long 5 seconds... I miss thrashing my cerb against the local GTO owners... dont think anyone will even jump to the chance of playing with the phoenix, biscuits banghead

Being a transverse engine, doesnt necessarily mean it cant be mounted longitudly? am I missing something? these V6's dont have a balancer shaft either, they can be pretty solid all the way to 120k+ miles... its the thrashed imports that give them a bad name.

IMHO the Z32 was always a better car than the 3000GT.

I played with the idea of both and the Z32 was a clear winner as far as I was concerned.

Far more involving as a driver's car.

Even with a 'slush' box and mildly tuned to 320 ish, it still feels fast even after a day thrashing the Cerb' around a track.

Oh, and it doesn't look quite as hideous as the Mitsu'

Well.... just to let you all know, just spoke to the mechanic who is well versed in transplant work, especially ricers, and he's running the numbers through the books and doing all the research, will give me a ball-park figure, take a deposit and off it goes

Already sourced a donor cerbera rolling-body/chassis, although sale has not been finalised, trying to bring him down to earth with price.

And this one will be a quickie too, cant wait to have some even bigger turbos planted in when the engine transplant takes place, as the headers will be re-done anyway, so can port in some big garrets SWEET! a ricer cerb with an unnatural choice of engine, love it. I think circa-700hp will be a good number, ok, so I killed the idea of the docile cerb, oh what the hell... thank-god for electronic boost control furious

I'll probably let the mech keep it and the rest of the 3000GT as a good-will gesture... haha, can you imagine an AJP pulling 3800lbs of japanese metal? hehe naaa, neither can i

What really rocks is how easily the mitsu block can be upgraded with off-the-shelf aftermarket parts, no waiting, just order, wait overnight, and walla, bobs ur uncle or aunt

Well, if this goes ahead, and now it looks pretty dead cert, then i'm sure i can give you the ajp for free and just use the same mech to do the transplant for ya we'll talk more when i get the quote and thumbsup (if its doable at reasonable cost)...
