Oh No!! Broken windscreen
Discussion
Whilst driving the cerbera the other night I think the car in front threw up a stone but thought nothing more of it.
Went into the garage Saturday morning and there was a huge dink in the windscreen right at the top centre by the alarm and the windscreen had cracked all the way down. Not sure how I missed that unless it cracked as it changed temp overnight?
Anyway - called Autoglass, who scarily had all my details after I gave them the reg number. The guy on the phone suggested he could do it Thursday morning at my address.
The local office called today. They have to try and source a screen through TVR and don't know how long that will take, plus they want the car at their premises all day
<insert very rude word here>.

Autoglass do not make windscreens or any automotive glass. They used to own what is now the Pilkington factory on the Isle of Sheppy many years ago but that's no longer the case. This factory does have patterns and fixtures for many older windscreens but not for the Cerbera.
We are one of five Pilkington customers in the UK and I can tell you that Pilkington do not make any of the later TVR screens, post Tasmin and S Series.
TVR used a factory in Finland for Griffith, Cerbera and later cars and has exclusive rights to the tooling so nobody else can order screens from there. There are some TVR screens made in South Africa which are of good quality but I don't think that the Cerbera screen has yet been copied.
The later Griffith, Cerbera etc screens are a really difficult shape to replicate, hence the lack of stock around at the moment.
We do have an OE post '96 Cerbera screen in stock if we can be of help.

Had mine replaced by Autoglass and they needed the car all day to let all the fixtures that are re-glued settle. They did a great job for me on the heated cerb screen. At the time they could get un-heated screens not a problem and that was only a few months ago. Mine was done in Bradford so not sure that they hold screens or there held at a depot?
So whats the difference between heated and unheated screens? It seems Autoglass MAY be able to source a heated screen after telling me they definately had my screen coming in today.
Does a heated one have the vertical thin wires running top to bottom? Not sure i fancy that if it's like my lads Focus.

I ended up with a heated screen and had the same worry when told this was all they could get. The filaments do run top to bottom but are so fine you can hardly see them and definetly are not noticeable when driving unlike the wifes C-max which give a multi-coloured rainbow effect when driving into the sun (not literally of course).
I wouldn't let it bother you. As an aside I read on here somewhere that the heated screens were less likely to go milky for some reason. Don't know if it's true or not but mines been fine.
Cheers
David
So I'm struggling to get the car sorted and have resorted to calling around dealers, suppliers etc. It seems I may have a screen (thanks phil) but not the trim? Is this the Carbon Fibre trim on either side?
I've been told the factory is in turmoil, TVR have gone bust, all sorts of stories. What does seem sure though is that glass and parts are in short supply, so take care of yours.

One of our engineers working out of Worcester branch used to do the screen fitting for a TVR dealer in the Midlands. I have spoken to him this morning and he tells me that the existing side trims can be reused; new ones are not essential. If you want the job done in Swindon, I could arrange for him to do the work for you using the screen that we have in stock.

There is a problem. Earlier this week we had one unheated screen that has now been fitted by our Swindon Branch and we knew of one heated screen that was available to us.
Griffith screens and glass for early TVRs is not a problem but glass for later ones is very difficult.
