Cerbera Storage
Discussion
Giving the cerb to a mate to look after for 3 weeks, on a trickle charger.
I need step by step instructions (being a nuptie) on how to hook it up.
The last time I jumped my cerb after leaving it for a while the battery went flat (boot light was on, that niggle is now sorted!) and I blew the fuse.
So, questions are:
1) Can anyone provide a step by step guide, is the charger turned on first or after hooking up the terminals, and which connection goes on first, black or red?
2) Can the black lead clamp onto the aircon unit rather than the black terminal which is hard to get at?
3) How often is it best to start it, every 2 days, weekly, etc? I drive mine daily and have never left it sitting. I assume a nice gentle 5 minute warmup should be more than adequate?

Buy an Accumate. Plug it into the cigarette lighter (or connect to battery terminals if you're too tight to buy the cig lighter add on). Switch it on at the wall. Go on holiday for 3 weeks. Job done
In the winter I sometimes leave my car unstarted (but connected to the Accumate) for a month or so at a time.

Hmm, cigarette lighter socket I believe is fused at 4amp, plus runs a boatload of wire to the battery. Okay if you don't have any corroded contacts, and are therefore not dropping any voltage to the battery terminals.
My suggestion is to put the pos straight onto the batter positive and the negative to the bracket on the engine that bolts to the engine and holds up your airbox. That way you don't have to worry about fuses blowing

Ive had mine plugged in that way for over 2 years. Maybe my wiring is ok? (although I do break out in a sweat of paranoia everytime I go on holiday and wonder if the car/house will still be there when I get back

Cheers. The negative could be clipped to the aircon unit, right? My suggestion is to put the pos straight onto the batter positive and the negative to the bracket on the engine that bolts to the engine and holds up your airbox. That way you don't have to worry about fuses blowing
I would buy an accumate, but I dont have a garage (or nearby powerterminals) and since Im selling the cerb...
I dont think just starting the car will do the battery any favours? (and probably doesnt do the engine any either?)
I think it needs a run to charge the battery via alternator? (you all know how good my mechanical knowledge is, dont you
)
Probably better off just sticking it on the charger and leaving it. Its only 3 weeks right?

The alternator gets enough juice to charge the battery above 1400rmp IIRC. Id rather it was started up weekly and run for 5 minutes than leave it cold on the driveway. Not that I know whats best for it!
Hi !
Don´t start the engine just charge the battery. If You should start the engine You need to run it for 20- 30 minutes at least. What happens when You start up the engine for just some minutes every now and then is that there will be condesation that builds up inside the engine and in the exhaustpipe due to temperatur changes, this can in bad cases give corrosion in the cylinderbores on valve seats and in the exhaustpipe. Therefore, if the engine should be run it should run long enough to get the hole engine and exhaust system warm.
I have winther stored my boat outside under some covers here in Sweden for more than ten years know without any problems if I keep the batteries charged.I have friends that have been starting their boatengines in the winther for some minutes every now and then and most of them have had cracked exhaustsytems, cracked heads on the engines and so on.
Since end of october my Cerbera is in a dry but not heated garage for the winther. I have put it on axlestands to not flatten the tyres. Washed the car underneath and then sprayed the chassis with WD40 as a rustprotection. I also have a trickle charger on a timer that charges the battery 1 day per week. I will not start the engine until springtime (in april).

Don't like that, engines need to be started. Surely if you don't start the engine the top of the engine will be left dry, all rubber seals will dry out. Worst case the top of the engine will start to rust.
Shove a bit of oil up the engine, fill up the rocker covers every few days by starting her.

Gonna have it started once a week, then. Shove a bit of oil up the engine, fill up the rocker covers every few days by starting her.
Starting the cerb once a week for three weeks isnt going to kill it.
Cant disconnect the battery as the car is on the drive, im not leaving the doors open, and Im not arsing about with the secret entry method either.

Do what i do and disconnect the
no. no one touches the silver key. I heard it was the self destruct mechanism. hence no one touches the silver key.
