MIL and Lamba - help please :o)
Discussion
Hello all,
Got a problem with the MIL light….
Had been driving for about an hour when the MIL light came on, then off then on…. Oil pressure and water temp were fine, no rough running/smoke/nasty smells.
Turned around, got home (MIL light flashing on and off intermittently all the way back) and plugged the laptop in. Showed a lambda fault of ‘BAD’ when the MIL light came on and a lambda fault log. Using the alternative parts list thread went down to my local factors in the car and picked up a new sensor (72 quid).
Fitted it (many grazed knuckles) and the problem is still exactly the same. I reset the fault logs and the adaptives and it seems to be fine then just comes back on.
Okay, so my first though that I’d managed to swap out the wrong sensor (aiming for number two) so I unplugged it to see what the readings would be (ie if it was the wrong one the software would then show faults on both sensors) but it was still showing a fault on number 2, number 1 was fine.
But here’s the odd thing: With it unplugged the MIL still flashes on and off and the readings on the lappy flash between OK and BAD.
It runs okay, in lower gears at low revs it misses very very slightly, nothing bad, been doing it for a couple of months (been meaning to go through the ignition to sort that out, I suspect a coil pack as one has some cracks across the top).
Normally the car is snug under a cover but with the high winds I’ve had to leave it off otherwise it ends up in my garden. So that car has been out in very heavy rain, but all the connectors looked fine.
Thoughts please chaps
Edited to add: Just had another look with the lappy and I notice that when the reading goes to BAD and the MIL light comes on the reading on the lambda (is it voltage?) goes to 1.8 - when it drops back to zero the reading goes back to okay

Yep, such is life
....I'm now concerned that the lead for the sensor just plugs into the connector and isn't secured anywhere. Naturally I never worried about this before I knew about it, seems to get very close the downpipes.
*sigh*
Early start tomorrow, look like it'll be ever earlier as I get busy with the cable ties and no room to get my hand in.
