New year diet for a Cerb

I was wondering whether any Cerbs out there have cracked the magic 1000kg mark. As each day passes my temptation to strip weight off my Cerb increases. This is not helped by the likes of EVO publishing more and more BHP/Tonne figures. With so many 400bhp+++ cerbs out there now, is 400bhp per tonne possible?

I reckon I can lose 100kg be simply removing the aircon and hifi. Where else can reasonably easy weight reductions be made (excluding me of course)?

Im currently stripping my project out. The air con is actualy quite light! I think 1000kg is just about possible....

It'll be interesting as most things on the Cerbera seem to be very light anyway.

I'm guessign the seats are probably heaviest and easiest to change with some lightweight racing buckets.

Yep, most of the stripable stuff is very light anyway, even the seats aren't THAT heavy compared to other cars. The aircon may be 20kgs max, same with the stereo and all the speakers. I weighed my de-aircon'd 97 4.2 a while ago with 1/4 tank fuel and it came in a 1190kg, so to get under 1000kg you'd need to strip nearly 200kg which would require race-car levels of strip, probably going to carbon body panels etc etc. Other small weight saving ideas are an alloy chassis plate (see TCS website), lighter magnesium alloy wheels, stainless lightweight exhaust, lexan replacement glass screens, 4.5 front discs that use bells etc etc.

The door cards are heavy as hell. I think the front seats are around 18Kg each and the door cards are 14Kg each from what I can remember.

Whats the point?? If your racing the Cerb then maybe, but otherwise....?? If you want lightweight then get a Caterham, but I quite like my air con, and glass windows, and heavy full leather trim and door cards - Strip yours out, and I bet if I met you on public roads, mine would be just as fast

Or, probably more importantly, faster than most things on the road anyway.

Another point to consider is, hows the handling going to be affected? Your suspension will be set up for a certain weight, traction will obviously be affected if you do manage to shave 200Kg off. Lets face it - that's a 6th of the weight, which is a pretty tall order.

Are you planning to race it or just turn it into a lightweight street legal race lookalike?

I understand you are interested in a custom composite propshaft for a TVR Cerbera. Although CTG has not built a prop for such a car it is certainly something that we would consider and we should be able to make a substantial weight saving.



On first impressions and if it was feasible I would estimate the prop to cost around £1600.00 excl VAT and delivery.



Of course I will need full specification of the shaft before I can confirm any prices.

I was thinking of saving a bit of weight, this would knock a few pounds off the car as well as your wallet.

I think the most effective diet for my Cerb is a diet for me - spending money is less painful though

Spoke to CTG at the first pistonfest a few years ago, they had a prop from an impreza on show, it was stupidly light, really nice looking too - not that you'd see it.

As has been said; seats + door cards + take out side impact bars and cage and replace with a better cage etc etc... im pretty sure you could get it down to 1000kilos.

I think trackcar may still have a picture of a carbon Cerb prop that i sent him by email last year. i'm sure it had a ctg sticker on it. When i get back to work i'll dig the pic out. like longbow say's the prop isn't that heavy anyway but the carbon ones do take some of the harsh backlash out of the drivetrain.

That looks like a card board tube with some wrapping paper on it, and silver sticky tape on the ends. I didn't see that one on Green Nigel/Blue Peter.
