Can anyone give me any help, my bonnet is wobbling at high speed, but not because of the usual bonnet catch arm issue. Rather because the hinge on the F/S on the bonnet is loose.

I have tried to tighten the nut which is visible, but the bonnet is still loose. I have felt a nut behind the reg plate too...but very hard to tighten.

Is it an easy job to remove the bonnet completely so I can inspect closer?

I fear the hinge may be ripping the GRP and wobbling in it's mounting.

Thanks guys...

The bonnets held on by 4 10mm nuts from memory. There are four threaded pins that point inwards, the nuts are on these but are awkward to get to, up behind the number plate. A small 10mm ratchet should work, or a small spanner. This happened on mine, i.e. the bonnet came loose slightly, and I simply tightened up the nuts which solved the problem.

There is a strengthening plate that is bonded to the bonnet, and this has the threaded studs attached to it.
The bond can break down over time, and the only cure is to remove it and rebond it. SO have a good look to see if the bond is breaking down. If it is Remove the bonnet from the car, mark out clearly the plates location, so you can bond it back in exactly the same place, Then chop the old bond away, re glue the plate and leave it clamped overnight. I'm not sure of the name of the stuff to use, but it is the same that is used for bonding windscreens.

my hinges were loose in the bonnet. I removed the bonnet and re-bonded them using fibreglass resin and cloth, one at a time with the bonnet on its side so that the rsin pooled around the fitting. sorry i know what I mean its obvious when you do it.
The hinge rod was just a threaded bar with a large nut on it which was bonded into the bonnet on my 99 4.5.

Hi Bart - yeah I think it might be that, the guy who told me couldnt remember the name, but said 'Make sure its the stuff used to bond Windsreens' - He said that all sealants have adhesive properties, but with the Windscreen one it's primary purpose is to bond, and and the flexibility of the sealant just gives a degree of flex to prevent cracking of the bonnet. from .
