Windscreen washer motor

Hi all,

I've done a search but no luck.

On my drive home today I needed to wash the windscreen to remove all the crud being thrown up but the screenwasher did not work. It was still p****** down when I got home so have not yet been able to check the problem. It may be something simple or possibly not!

If its not a simple blockage any ideas where I start. (I am assuming there is water etc. in the resevoir and will checkk that first!)

Where is the motor located? Any idea which fuse and if it controls anything else so that I can check if it/they are working?

If its knackered where do I get another and any idea what make, part no. or from what other car?

Your washer tank and pump is just behind the drivers side indicator.
What i find is if it runs out of water i have to prime it with water before it works, but first i would fill the washer tank up, then i would check that none of the washer tubing is restricted eg; a tie wrap too tight, when the washer button is pressed does it buzz, if it does, then it will more than likely be working and the problem will be one of the above.
If it is not buzzing when button is pressed, check the fuse.
If all else fails you will have to take the tank and pump off the car, you will probably get a new pump from Halfrauds.
Hope this helps, but thers one thing for sure, it will not be a two minute job if the tank is full of water.

I had a 4.5 and my washer tank was in front of the engine. You could see the filler cap in the middle of the engine valance. A pipe runs from here up towards the battery and is very close to manifold, Check its not burnt or perished. I used some 5mm heat resistant silicone tubing cost about £3.

Exactly the same on mine.

My money is on it being the pipe that has been melted as well, as said look around just near the battery area for a charred brown mess. Mine is certainly buggered but not got around to fixing it yet, where might someone source some of this heat resistant stuff?

High guys, got mine from www.espdesign.co.uk The hose is Samco Vacuum tubing and available in various colours. I used red to match the car,3 Mtrs is loads. I used the spare to do the turbo on my Land Rover.

mine stopped working and it was the ribbon cable from the steering column that was at fault. Before you rush out and buy a new pump, just get a peice of wire directly from the battery +'ve to the pump +'ve, to see if it works (also earth it directly to the chassis to double make sure) If it then works, the problem is electrical,

They ddo look nice, but not sure if they would 'suit the job'. These are switches that you push for on - it stays on, then you push for off.
Our Start and Off switchws are not like that - ours are Push - its On, let go and its off.

I wonder if they would fit the buttond in the steering wheel?

Seems like the only one they don't do would be the horn button
