Thought I'd appeal to the experience of you mob here...
My local TVR seller has a couple of cerbs at the moment, but the prices are looking a bit on the hot side.

Now, is it just me or is £20k for a 99 4.5 pretty hefty?
There's also a 98 4.2 for £16k, again seems a lot?
Both have suspiciously low mileages, which also bothers me...

There really is no excuse these days for crap photos.
Those pics of the £20K car are a disgrace.
You are paying a premium for buying from a dealer. they have to cover warranty etc.
Is it that good a car? I doubt the warranty is that great. Perhaps consider a private sale with an indepandant warranty.
Not trying to put a spanner in the works, but just initial feeling.

I only wish they where 10k more since I have one.
Not every cerb is the same and if its top quality then yep its a good price. But if its a dog and they are some out there then its dam expensive.
You can buy some bloody good cerbs now for silly cheap money so good luck and get hunting.

I agree with this statement!
I bought mine private, had a good look did a few checks myself and got a good feeling. Liked the colour and the guy selling and bought the car.
After I bought the car I dropped in at a dealer to buy some parts and was absolutely amazed by the poor quality of the dealers range of Cerbera's. They were all tatty and with similar mileage but BIG money...some 5 grand more than I paid.
I must say talking to a few people, I have found if they had a car that had unlining problems they would sell or exchange it with a dealer NOT a private seller. The dealer then sells this car on at a profit (of course) and un-be-known to them there is a bomb waiting to go off!
The only saving grace is that if the car does go wrong the dealer will sort it under warranty, I'm sure...if it's covered by such a warranty.
This is our course not very often the case but it does happen!

Join the TVRCC, if not already, and go to a meet. The Cerbera guys there will inform you what to look for and after a few meets you'll gain an eye for whats what! If possible it is good to know the previous owner and to buy a car with some good history.

I bought my '99 T-plate 4.5 last July with 18k miles on the clock for considerably less than that. 6 months later, after a major 12k service including tappets, new clutch master and Slave cylinders, 2 new tyres, and de-cat pipes, I'm still a couple of grand in pocket over that £20k one.
£20k from a dealer 6 months ago would have been on the high side of 'average', but prices have plummeted since then and I feel that £20k is way too high - I wish it wasnt because then mine would be worth nmore, but thats the way it is.

I think you'll find the prices raise slightly as we aproach spring.

Forget the distance, some of us think nothing of traveling hundreds of miles for a service, so go as far as you need to view cars.
I would find one from here, on the forum , known checkable, Mats is, I hear selling his, F1 Tech cant realy get any better than that . Call him.

A fair enough point, but it's not like a service is that regular occurence. Do you not think that round trips of 500 miles plus every weekend to look at cars you don't buy might get a bit tedious/frustrating?

Seriously talk to Matt, if I was buying a Cerb now he would be first on my list. Check his threads, everything sorted.

Besides 500 miles? pa!
During the last six months I have bought 2 Classic BMWs from Penzance. An XJ12c from Bristol and the best of the lot last week - a purple Cerb from Stratford-upon-Avon. I live in Yorkshire. I think to get the best you have to put in a little effort.
