semi-slick tyres

I did hear that the 255's for the rear are actually very wide at the shoulder and 'may' rub. I'd also be very intersted in first hand knowledge on this, as I'd love to have a set of R888's on a spare set of rims for summer.
I used to run these wayyyyyyyyy back on and old modded XR2 with 130 bhp. Admititly it was from wheel drive, but the car handled like a pile of cr@p and trammed all over the place, went round roundabout like it was on rails however
I would be interested in what it did on the back of a Cerb

Anybody running on semi-slicks such as the Toyo 888s?
I have been using Dunlop equivalents for the past 2 years & they're great, immense grip & wear rate is good. Shall be using Michelin Pilot Cup sports for the next few months & then onto 888's for the rest of the year. They are highly recommended
I reckon after using track day specials, you wont go back to std road tyres.
IMHO the Toyo R888's are a superb tyre offering excellent grip in the wet and surprisingly good grip in the wet. The grip increases as they warm up and is vastly superior to any road tyre.
They are quite well used on the sprint and hill climb scene where time is everything and seem to be taking over from Yoko AO32's as the weapon of choice. Quite a few of the leading TVRCC sprinters are currently using them.
A set of R888's lasts me a season which typically includes 4000 miles on the road and 10-12 sprints each with 4 or 5 runs so the wear rate is ok as well-although they are well shot but the end of the year.
In 2005 I ran standard 16 wheels with 225's all round. Last year I ran 17 inch racelines with 235's all round and reckon it gave better grip and less sidewall flex, but TBH either option is great. 255's on the rear are too wide and will rub on the rear arches. The only person i know who tried it had to modify the inside of the arches to clear the shoulder of the tyre.

They sound awesome.
I'm running on 18" Spiders although I'm not sure what widths as the car is currently at Fernies. I got a feeling the fronts are 225 and the backs are 245 - does this sound right? If so, sounds like the rear widths could be the only issue.
Out of interest, how much a corner do they average out at?

I am a little confused. I am right in saying that the widths are determined by the alloy size and not the tyre? i.e. you select the tyre according to the alloy size?? So whatever I'm currently running is what I will have to replace with?
sort of: The choice of R888's within some wheel sizes is limited. If you log onto the Toyo uk web site you will see what is on offer. Go to the motor sport section double click on R888 and it will show you all the sizes rim widths details etc.
My 17" 235's have a width of 243mm and dont rub so you might well be able to go for a 245 width on an 18" wheel without it rubbing, but i havent tried it. The 255 18" is 260mm wide and based on a firends experience I'm pretty sure that those will rub but it might be worth a try.
