Hi Guys n Gals,

Posting on Cerbera forum as advised.....

Well, my girlies car has recently been written off (she's ok by the way), and it really is my birthday, as she can now have my 2001(X) BMW 325Ci as the runabout shopping trolley, and I can hunt for the car of my dreams - a TVR Cerbera.

I've been looking for a bit now, and there's not many 2002/2003 models for sale, which is ideally what I would like, so any pointers where else to look bar here, autotrader/topmarques and tvrcc would be welcome.

But really what I would like to know from all you really experienced (and hopefully blissfully happy Cerb owners) is:
- who is the best guy within 50miles of Bolton, Lancs to look after it for me
- what do I need to check for apart from FTVRSH so I don't get my nuts bitten
- and if it's already done 25-30k miles wots round the corner? clutch? rebuild?

I know 6000/12000 mile services plus oil, petrol, tyres, insurance is gonna be probably double what i pay for BMW dealer maintenance, but it's the faults and failures I'm a little worried about

Finally, are there any Warranty companies out there who actually do really cover your car and pay out?

The factory service boys are going to be setting up their own TVR servicing business near Blackpool as TVR have now dispensed with all things British. I should be ringing Paul (15 yrs factory experience ) as to when they will be setting up, sometime this week & post any details re contacts etc.

Clutches tend to last 20k ish +/- some thousand miles. I don't think there's a problem with supply of those, its just it costs to get a new one fitted.
Engine-wise I would guess that for a V8 you'd be fine on that mileage unless the previous owner has treated it badly - thats really the thing: if the previous owner has been sensible warming it up, feeding it oil & water when it needs it as well as servicing & maintaining it properly, then you've gotta hope its gonna be a pretty good one.
For a Speed Six.... not sure. Check the S6 forum.
Check the chassis too.

Hi there & welcome to the fold.

For my tuppence worth, Ian at Torque RVT is an independent TVR and from my experience is
great, and he's at Middlewich which is probably just within the 50 miles.

I use mine every day (Cerb 4.5 99 plate),from Liverpool to Chorley and trips and its great, so far so good, I had a new clutch within two weeks of buying the car, and that's the only thing in two years.

If you can get an older model which has been well looked after and has 18" spiders and headlight conversion (if that's your thing) then I would argue that these could be as good as 2002/03 plate and will leave you money in reserve if you need to spend it.

The AA do a fantastic warranty for £65 and cover almost everything (you do have to be a member of the AA) which for me at present has been the best value.
