Steering rack removal

I,ve undone all the bolts and unions holding the rack in place, then ran out of time and had to go to work. How do i get the steering rack out of the car, does it just slide out of the drivers side ??

Yep drivers side, but its a bit of a chinese puzzle. From what I remember which was a year or so ago it had to be poked out the bottom before it slid at an upward angle out the drives side wheel arch

Actually theres a picture in the Cerb CD of which way. Terminally grainy, but does work .

You renovating, or just moving it out the way for something bigger to do?

No it's popped a seal so just reconing it plus all the other winter jobs !!

Well, why not pop the seal in situ. I took the spline and quill out in situ.

It's nearly out now so i'll give it a clean and a lick of paint under where the rack sits and job's a goodun (hopefully)

Remove brass pipes. 2x
Slide all the way to the right hand side and then bend arm up and pull out and up in the direction of the drivers side.

Only tip I have is unlike other cars, never ever ever lever using the frame as a pivot.

What a barsteward this was, i tried to move all the way to right but was struggling to do so, as i did not want to remove the pipe with the water temp sender on it. So i took the splined part off ( three allen bolts) then turned the rack 180deg and it slid out of drivers side dead easy. Hopefully i'll just refit it this way.
