I changed my "big fuse" - simple but fiddly

The title says it all.
The plan was to change the "big fuse" and "big fuse holder".
I know it makes no sense to do it but every time I sprayed it with contact cleaner all my starting problems (i.e. sometimes having to hold the button for ages) disappeared.
I had all the bits and said I'd do it this evening.
What a stupid place to put it - you'd need arms as skinny and long as a sweeping brush handle to work on it.
I gave up on changing the holder today and just changed only the fuse itself.
I must say that the fuse that went in was a pretty stiff piece of metal compared to the one that came out which was very soft and bendy.
Perhaps it ws just two different manufacturers.
It'll be interesting to see if it makes any lasting difference.
We'll see ............

Remove the feed pipes off the wipers and remove the panel in front of the windscreen.
Disconnect the battery earth (another fiddly job).
Have a search around at the back of the engine, pretty much under the bulkhead, and it's located on a small bracket down there.
You'll see the lugs on the heavy cables going into it.
The fuse is inside that holder.
It's not a conventional fuse, it's a flat open piece of metal with a 100amp rating.

It's not that difficult to find - it's pretty much the only thing there!
As you said, it's on the centre line, and is a black plastic case (which sometimes doesn't acutally close, and may be tie-wrapped shut (or perhaps have no lid at all)). There's two wires going into it (one from the near- and off-side) (which on mine are helpfully black and red).
This case is bolted to (I think) the top of the bell housing of the clutch, but if one opens it up then the posts can be loosened and the fuse can be slid out, and the new one slid in.
It's also a good time (as you said) to squirt some cleaner in there and give the connections a bit of a clean (I used an old toothbrush for this).
Another point: be careful when removing the old fuse, as it's not guaranteed to come out in one piece. Sometimes it's only the connection at the post that's holding one (or both) ends together.
While you've got the contact cleaner out you might also want to freshen up the connectors for the cooling fans, which tend to corrode somewhat (or, if they're working fine, you might juts want to leave them alone...

Mine has in at the front of the engine. A mod done by cossimetro when he was the owner. Seems like a good place to me.
