which cerbera?

Hi there,

I'm considering a cerbera as a second car which will cover around 5000 miles a year. At my budget I'll be looking for either an early 4.2V8 or possible an early speed 6.

What are main differences between the engines in terms of power, torque, noise, mpg, weight and most importantly reliablity!

I know that TVR's are not cheap to run but the more reliable the better!

Go for the 4.2 if budget is a concern as the engine is more durable. Some early 4.2s had crank issues, but it is fair to say more speed6's have required rebuilds in percentage terms. Power is similar between the two, but delivery is different. The S6 is more fuel economic (4v heads versus the V8's 2v heads) and probably a smoother drive, but the AJP is a key ingredient of the Cerb character.

As he said 4.2 better. Early Speed Six is worth avoiding like plague IMHO

Having had a 4.2 Cerb and a Speed 6 Tuscan .... I would suggest go for the V8.
The Speed 6 is great, while it's running well ... but you be scared to death that something serious is going to happen and present a 5k+ bill like I was.
The V8 was very reliable and never missed a beat (apart from when it needed a new starter motor).
V8 Sound is also a must (IMHO)

Either way ... just get one ... a Cerb is an experience every time you drive it (far more that my 911. Just that I used them all every day.

for me it was the backfiring and the no mass flywheel revs - its like a race car.

the speed 6 sounds nice, but its made of cheese and doesnt rev the same

Yes, but before asking I *did* search the archives. A tad extreme maybe, but I reckon over the course of about 8 evenings, I read every post on the Cerb forum since the beginning.

Or were you just commenting on how many times you've heard the questions over the years?

Yes was only commenting that I have heard it so many times but hey I am sure I asked similiar questions and to be honest searching is a pain.
