Steering Rack recon ??

I've just been quoted 500 GBP to have my steering rack reconditioned, plus i'd have to sign a disclaimer if they break it whilst trying to get into it. Does anybody know of a good place in West Yorkshire that would be willing to undertake this job and for a few dollars less. I've heard a few people talk about a company in London that will recon them for about 150 quid which is what i was expecting to pay up here, so if you have any ideas i would love to hear them.

A mate of mine did the rebuild himself on one out of some car that he couldn't get parts for too easily over here (a Fiat X1/9 I think).

He stripped it, worked out what he needed, ordered the seals, etc and sorted it himself.

It took time to do and was tricky enough but he's a printer, not a mechanic, and managed to do it.


If the first one on here to rebuild their own could take some pictures please .......

Got mine done last year for £200.

I dealt with a guy in Luton and he sent it off to a company in Birmingham. I sent it Monday and got it back Friday all freshly painted and a years warranty.

Mine was £150 all in, completely re-done.

Under a week turn around too.

Just make sure you keep you track rod ends. They kept mine the buggers. :lol:

My cerb went off to the dealership nearly two weeks ago with a steering issue - lumpy movement and a loud noise. The verdict was it required a replacement steering rack. They didn't mention anything about having mine reconditioned though, but explained that they were waiting to get hold of a reconditioned one. Given that my Cerb is still under warranty I was expecting them to replace it with a new one. They tell me that it is impossible to get hold of one at the moment due to TVR Power (or their supplier) only being prepared to do a run of them if they have sufficent numbers/orders. Is this a typical response from dealerships?

799+vat for a new one or 150 quid for a recon, thats probably why

hi have a recon power rack off already to put on £250 i use a birmingham based company they have done all my tvr racks for the last 8 yrs and have never had problem with them at all !!!! kj tvr 07739209633

AND HAVE WORKED WITH TVR FOR SIX YEARS OWNED MOST OF THEM APART FROM A CERB !!!!
