Hi all,

been through the paperwork for my blue 4.2 96. I thought I'd log all receipts in my possession. This i think would be a good way for people to realise the running costs of the car. I guess I have one of the older Cerbs on this board.

Unfortunately the list is not comprehensive; little is known of expenses from Dec 96 to dec 99.

So things not included:

pre 99 servicing and warranty work
Petrol
Insurance
Tyres
new ICE thought to be £3000
Private Numberplate
DEPRECIATION

but i think most others are there. Let me know what you think and if someone wants to hazard an approximation on the costs that have been missed I'll add them in.

Comments welcome, friends. Oh yeah only the costs from 11/06 are mine! phew!

Having spent 13K on my last one in 2 yrs I can see how this can happen. I reckon my last one did about £25K in 4 yrs.

Who looked after your car??

Some of those prices are ridiculously scary... dont think we'd keep ours if it was that much?!!

edit: who "LOOKED" after your car even.

In contrast, the item prices on the stack of bills from both TVR main dealers and independent workshops I got with my Chim seem positively reasonable, stuff like £67.50 + VAT for a reconditioned steering rack (TMS) or £75+VAT for a recon starter motor are a lot less than I'm used to paying for the Saab (which is reasonable-ish compared with modern exec motors on most accounts), same with consumables like discs, pads, gaskets, front wishbones ...

We've had a couple of quite scary things done over the past six/seven(?) years and honestly, I dont think we could even come close to that figure...

I really need to get the figures off dad, he keeps track of absolutely everything with his cars.

only mine since November!

However, in no particular order Trackcar/Joospeed, Hexham Horseless, Mole Valley TVR, Leven Technology and probably some others too, haven;t got the details to hand and I can't remember.

Mole Valley TVR - seem to have looked after it the 'most' smash

costs 06
£3,815.28
costs 05
£2,861.77
Costs 04
1299.92
Costs 2001
£10,143.11
Costs 00
£6,246.47
Costs 99
£2,140.69

Costs by year fact fans.

So a heavy proportion was during the 00-01 period at this time it was used on the track a few times if the history is correct. There seems to have been no expense spared on replacement parts following this track work eg the car was fully sorted before and the after the trackday.

I couldn't give a rats ass, still a great car, no I correct myself, it is a fcuking awesome car, everything i hoped it would be and more.

Also 'well looked after' IMHO. Car at 10 years old was still running a measured 360bhp. Everything works, and no leaks.

Anybody else got lifetime details they wish to post? Be interesting to read.

Doesn't really detail the engine problem apart from 'internal noise' this was repaired at least once by having the engine sent to TVR - so that's going to cost. The second time the labour was F.O.C so i guess someone ballsed it up first time round.

This sort of post doesn't impress me in the slightest......the reason being that nearly all of those jobs can now be done for much less. There are also some serious "pants down" jobs/prices posted that hopefully just wouldn't exist now, not to mention the duplicate jobs done as well. This car must have been driven and tracked hard but at least it had pre-track day services done, which although expensive account for the fact that the car is about to be ragged, thereafter the discs, pads, shocks, springs etc have all been replaced.

Yes this will put possible buyers off, but it also shows what previous owners have paid for the upkeep of a Cerb, these are owners who could afford to maintain the cars at these levels, most people buying Cerbs at £10k don't necessarily have the back up funds for this level of maintenance and hence there will be quite a few ropey cerbs around in the near future (as well as some being about now). The only positive to draw from this is that some of the OTT prices quoted above should not be applicable now, as the price of some of the parts has dropped, the amount of options on certain parts has increased, and there are more Indies about who are considerably more cost effective than the Dealers.

My two pence worth,
Jules.

Please don't misunderstand I am not trying to impress anyone. It's just that we often get the costs £2-4 grand a year banded about for running costs, sometimes this includes insurance and petrol! sometimes not. I had a stack of old invoices and thought (some of) you guys would be interested. Purely just information.

If PHers have details on jobs they think can be done far cheaper then let everyone know. What are the costs on your cars? The actual costs though not the ones you don't think you have spent or have not told the wife.

I for one didn't buy the Cerbera to try and keep costs down. And I am not trying to put people off. Far from it. The more serious Cerbera owners we have with pockets that are deep enough to properly maintain their cars (even if this means doing some work yourself) means these awesome cars will be around in 20-30 years time - a true British classic car.
