0 W 40 oil - do I need it?

I'm having trouble getting any 0 W 40 fully-synthetic oil at the moment over here.

5 W 40 fully-syntethic is the closest that seems to be available.

What are you lot all using?

Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50 here, as recommended by my indie. He said the 0w stuff was too thin in his opinion (especially for engines that have covered a few miles) which means you tend to get through it quite a lot - am sure you are not going to do any harm with a 5w/40 and based on the above it could be even a slight improvement. We all know to treat them super gently when cold anyway so I guess it is the upper figures that really count.

I run a 10w50 (from opieoilman) and I remember Al Melling saying a quality 20/50 mineral would be fine. I agree with TC, something a bit thicker would be a good choice.

If you look on the tvr general bit there's a sticky bout oil for tvr's. I just ordered engine, gearbox and dif oil from them. very helpfull guys. They recommended 5w-40 for ajp engine especially ester based stuff cause of the high temps.

I seem to remember having to buy a 0/40 on a 650 mile hot day in France.

It went out of the rear of the exhaust pipes, quicker than the petrol did

I was working off the handbook for the '97.

That's where I got the 0 W 40 from.

Looks like they changed their mind fairly often in Blackpool, eh?

I'm using Silkolene Pro S - I think 5w-40, but can't be sure without looking at the can.
It looks like ribena though.

I have heard that 0W-40 was not good for the crank! How true that is I'm not sure so I'm using Mobile 1 5w-40. I get mine from France with the wine!!! is a lot cheaper, like the wine!

The first two are the same for the '97.

The "6000 miles on" on is 0 W 40.

I actually got a friend of mine who works in one of the Irish distributors for Shell to see if he could find anything out for me.

He got on to Shell UK and they have stopped supplying 0 W 40 completely and now recommend the 5 W 40 for any high-performance engines.

I reckon I'll be going with that.
