Hi all,i've been told that the Cerb has a T55 box,and the Griff has a T5?Could someone please explain the difference(s) between them?Would they be a straight swap also?
Cheers,Mike

Not 100% such but I think they both have t% boxes but the cerbera linkage may be in a different place.

when I contacted TVR earlier this year re a gearbox seal, I was asked the same thing, if it was a t55 ot t5. So the parts guys thought there were two different models, could not say what the difference was though

A six speed T56 would be nice though yeslick
Anyone done this or something similar for a Cerb. What box does the Boss Cerb have confused

scratchchinHmmmmmm,i wonder what it's all about then?confused. It's a bit worrying to see the torque rating of the T5 on that link isn't it?

Seeing as they don't actually fail that often, well maybe 5th gear. The theory I've heard banded about is because of the relative light weight of TVR's its not so much of an issue with light shock loadings.

Its a T5 as the same in my Chim, i've seen both of them on the floor and out of the car! I think that box is on its limit with that motor, let alone with another 150-200lbs ft of torque, thats why ive bought a TKO 600 (600lbs ft.) gearbox.

There's a thread on this very topic here. To summarise: possible but certainly not easy.

With the torque spread of the Cerb a six gear box seems like overkill. You can lose more time with an extra gear change than you gain by keeping the engine at absolute peak power.

Not sure I fully agree with that but I don't disagree enough to argue the point, however my experience with other cars that have 6-speed boxes is very positive compared with their 5-speed siblings.

I have noticed that it is quite easy to be in the wrong gear in the Cerb. I'd certainly prefer a 6-speeder but the T56 box is fearsomly heavy and I'd question whether the weight penalty was worth it for an AJP engine'd car (no question when considering the LS engine).

I can find two sets of ratios available for the T5, close and wide. I think the Cerb has the wide set but not sure. If you're not chasing max speed all the time, I can see why the close ratio set might be preferable but I'd run both sets through the gearcalc programme first to see how useable first gear was with each. The close ratio set might make crawling in traffic a real PITA.

Some details here:

I couldn't find any info about turning a T5 into a 6-speeder but as indicated in that other thread, if you want max strength then the G-Force box seems the way to go.
