Just got a Hayward and Scott full system from the manifolds backwards, de-cat. Told them to build it like the original TVR sports system in terms of functionality and looks but a little noisier, engine roar only - I wasn't having my Cerby sounding like an amplified version of a Clio with a family sized baked bean can wealded to the back... and...

It's bloody wonderful. Brute force and noise on acceleration but quieter than the old TVR sport 'zhaust when cruising.

Also noticed a significant bump up in straight line performance. Admittedly she was feeling sluggish after my old system collapsed and I blew large holes in the old cats but now I swear she's quicker than she used to be before the problems. I gotta get up to the rolling road to see if I've gained any ponies (was 348, which ain't so bad for a STANDARD 4.2)

Ben,

Do you have any pics and, if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you?

I'm in the process of having a system 'made' for mine, see: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=351629&f=6&h=0

Thanks

Tim

A friend on mine, also on here 'Precat', has used Hayward and Scott in the past, and recommends them.
Cant wait to here what yours sounds like Ben.
My baffles were rattling a while ago, but have quietened down for the moment, but its only a matter of time.

Hi Tim,

I'll get some pics up at some point today (I never need an excuse to get the DSLR out and take pics of my PnJ).

Looks pretty standard except a slight increase from 2 3/4" to 3" pipes, but the undercarriage is a bit lower of those speed bumps have to be negotiated with the utmost care.

I had Hayward and Scott recommended to me by Leven and judging on how far and wide cars appear to come for their services (There was a Swiss DeTomasso Pantera in the garage), their reputation must stretch far and wide

Are you saying it's sitting lower with the new exhuast?

I'm looking at £760 to get a system made, was it more or less for you?

Thanks

Tim

Haywood and Scott have an excellent reputation across a wide spread of Marques, so I am sure the quality of the system will be top notch.

If they have kept the diameter the same for the whole system then the only way you'll notice any performance gains will be through the actual finish of the system and the way they have made the "bend" sections of the system. It will sound better and possibly quieter than the old system due to the type of stainless used and possibly the thickness. It's a pity that it hangs slightly lower than the standard system but I am sure if you mention this to them then they will sort it out for you.

Post up the pics,
Jules.

It was £750+VAT for the De-cat system.

I could have had a cat-back for £600. It's not lower per-se, the sports cans are bigger, which leads to it being a little lower but the pop and crackle on lift-off now is three times louder (I must have a tunnel run urgently!!!). Sounds like gunfire and makes people look when Leigh broadway sound more like Kabul

lol

That's a good price for a Haywood and Scott system.

Okay, some pictures - Try to ignore the little bit of dirt on her (sorry! I know I'm letting the side down)

Looks like a nice thick gauge of metal too, what bore is it for the whole system. Whilst here anyone know what is the bore of the 4.5/4.2 manifolds collector (last pipe before the cat section)confused.

I've seen a few now and in-spite of the evidence (RR chart) I'm convinced the extra diameter is worth something. Mine, built by Cyclone, is 3" across. You can hear it breathing better than the narrower ones. It's a breathy sound as opposed to a spitting sound from the narrower ones. It's a big engine to rely on narrow pipework.

And of course the fact that it fills the litle arches in the rear valence better has nothing at all to do with it.

From what Ben said in his first post it has been based on a standard exhaust so I'd say it's 2 1/8" in diameter with 3" tail pipes, I would have thought that it'll definitely flow better than a standard exhaust so there should be some minor gains.

Definitely beathes better with extra diameter and this is even more evident with the remapped or higher power cars. Owners who have bought the ACT or SP system will back this up. Their systems may "only" be an 1/8 of an inch larger diameter than standard (2.25 into 3" tails v 2.125 into 2.5" tails) but spread across a whole exhaust makes a big difference from a capability to breathe perspective. My system (2.5" into 3" tails) proved the point on a higher powered Cerb.

Jules.

I think my use of the word "in-spite" was wrong there... I meant to imply that even if you ignore the evidence (RR) it looks better.

But you knew that.
