Exhaust mounting points in the middle of the car

Have any of you added center mounting points / hangers for your exhausts?

I have had the cross-brace brackets break on mine a couple of times (mainly due to them touching of some bad roads).

Mine is the stainless steel type with de-cat pipes also.

While I've re-welded mine each time, and did an even better weld last time, I'm now thinking that I may be putting pressure on the welds on the mild-steel headers up front and may end up moving the problem to there.

My thinking was that I'd separate the pipes under the car and add a new hanger for each of them around the middle of the car.

Have any of you done anything like this or am I concerned about something that'll never happen?

Is there still a brace between your downpipes?

I've heard talk that the removal/lack of this can stress the rest of the system, although I'm not sure if this is bo**ox or not.

There's two pieces of stainless flat welded across the two pipes from the cats to the back boxes.

These are actually the bits that the welds break on.

If I think of it, the next time I have it over the pit I'll take a picture and add it on here to clarify what I'm talking about.

I know what you're talking about, but in addition there are, on some cars, a tie/brace between the downpipes BEFORE teh cats.

The welds have broken, as yours have, several times on my pipes! Real PITA.

I don't think there is a front brace.

I was actually thinking of adding a top stabiliser between the two pipes to see if it helped.

Hmm I havent got a brace on the exhaust anywhere, and separate sports back boxes, but it hasn't cracked or come loose just shakes a bit more than usual at the tail pipes.
I welded up an exhaust, on a 4.5 Cerb, as it had split in just the place your talking of, I wonder if it does stress the rest of the system? I hope not!

How were the original exhausts braced compared to the after-market ones?

Did the originals crack welds too?

Anyone got a picture from underneath of an original?

The 4.5 I welded had a flat plate welded across the bottom of the pipes at the back of the floor and it had cracked the pipes each side of the plate, nearly all the way around. It had only done 9000 odd miles so I would guess that it was origional.
