Another wheel post!

Ive decided on the wheels for my race car. Now just need to know what offset i need?? Also do you think i could run 10x18 on the back without to much grief?? or would it be best to stick with 8x18 at the fron and 9x18 at the back??

10's on the rear are pretty big. I have 9.5 x 19's and just clear the Nearside rear arch ok. Can;t remember what my offset is though, might be 35mm I think.

Biggest killer will be your tyres, a good fitting tyre may well cause you greif on clearance where-as my rubber band things don't.

You'll need to get busy with a tape measure and work out the clearance. Even then it will very much depend on the profile of the tyre edges as to whether you hit anything or not.

I dont mind cutting out the inner arch. Just the exterior body work im worried about.

Craig (the NoS one) is your man I'm sure he is running something like 10" or even 11" on the rear of his.

The outer can be anything up to 25mm thick. Depends how it was laid up.

I've ground back the outer egde of mine a little on the offside but still need to take it a little further (bodies do not sit centrally on the frames). If you go through the inner arch then you can always patch with some fibreglass matting/resin in a can.

Thats why im going for them. They are really strong and quite light. I didnt want a wheel that looked "aftermarket". Also the MO is well known as being a great race wheel.

Look for the offset calculator on one of Harry's posts on this subject. My only comment when changing front and rear tyre widths would be to get expert advice on how the balance of front and rear grip would change.

One thing to remember, 10's will need serious inner archwork, you may even need to cut into the boot area. It all depends on your car, no 2 cars have the same measure of glassfibre....

I'd suggest go for 9's. Larger selection of good tyres. And for racing you want some meaty tyres, not rubberbands, especially on the rear....

Thanks ash. Maybee 9" would be better then. I havent got much time until the start of the season! Maybee 10" next year??
