i've had the 4.2 cerb for 2 years now and I think it's time to start play with it a little

i've got the rear sports exhaust and my thoughts on the next mod would be an induction upgrade

On a 4.2 I dont believe there is an induction mod readily avail? If you havent got decent suspension then I would recommend that as your next upgrade? I dont thin you have many power increase options (except supercharging and NOS). The best option (if you are very serious) is to get a 4.5 or change your engine.

I dont think a ra-map on a 4.2 makes a lot of difference, the 4.2 is a pretty sorted engine in standard form, and is just as quick as a 4.5. On RR days the standard 4.2's are only marginally below the 4.5 figures.
Personally my 'mods' just consist of keeping the car perfect. I mentioned in a different thread that with the current slump in prices, mine has lost £6k in value since July, so I just dont any point in throwing money at it in uneccasary mods just for the sake of it. However a suspension upgrade does make a big difference to the enjoyment of the car, and it's probably one of the few options that actually make the car more sellable. (GAZ Gold on mine - but lets not start a debate on which suspension is the best, pay yer money and take yer choice).

I only just spoke to Trackcar yesterday about remapping my 4.5 RR and thought I heard him say that there was more value in a remap on a 4.2 than a 4.5. Maybe I misunderstood and stand corrected.

My advice, keep the money tucked away for the enevitable bills for fixing and replacing worn items, and to keep it serviced correctly, if you are thinking of keeping it for a few more years.

Lots of things in life to spend money on instead. IMHO the Cerbera is one of the few cars on the road that doesn't need to be 'Max Powered'.

Definitely the 4.5 that gains from remapping and not the 4.2. A healthy 4.2 will at best only see gains of 10-15bhp whereas a 4.5 can see upto 50bhp.

Joolz often comments that it is poor value for money in getting a 4.2 remapped and as far as I know doesn't offer this service unless a customer specifically wants it.

If you have a 4.5RR then it would be worth sending it in for a remap. The Cerb 4.5 was originally specced to produce 420bhp (The RR 440?) but none have ever got near, some of this is down the way that they are poorly tuned. A remap regains some of this lost grunt and also provides a better balance of fueling, you may also see a gain on mpg and driveability will also be vastly improved. In my eyes this adds value to the car in that it is *now* running as it always should and is certainly worth a premium over the cars left as totally standard (in map form).

t'other way around .. very little point remapping the 4.2 , the std 4.5 gains massively though .. however the red rose 4.5 is also very nicely mapped so gains are small there.

I recall austec have a number of items on their 4.2 upgrade list, one of them is that they do their own head-porting and flowing work, i dont know what the gains are, but if you're itchy for more horses, then drop paul a line and see what he can do for you...
