Losing water - AJP8

Hi - looking for some ideas.

Seem to be losing water over a period of time, cant find any obvious leeks...

When headgasket's start to go on these things - are there any symptoms such as this?

Oil is not gettig emulsified and car is running just fine - any ideas?

Very fine leak steaming off could be the problem. Is there any build up of rusty coloured crud?

could be coming out as steam from radiator, could be a small leak, might be worth keeping your eyes on it when engine is running.(the radiator that is)....

Quite common prob. The leaks that only happen at operating temp can be hard to find. You will have a small hole in the rad or in a pipe I am afraid. Andy at APM is good at finding them !

I know there a pain in the arse to find in the house nevermind somewhere around the engine.

Just had a thought about moving tissue paper around the pipework to see if there is any tell tale marks.

there is a y joint under the expansion tank that can leak.

I used to lose water when i first got mine, with the odd dribble when parked after using, but no obvious place it was coming from. Tuerned out to be the radiator - got a refurbed one and it has been fine since

so - just taken it for anoher run - and have noticed water collecting under the rad, in the tray that sits below the rad / fans.

anyone seen this before - is it likely to be pipework or small hole in rad.

i guess its loosing around a pint every hour or so

whadya reckon - refurb rad?

It definitely sounds like the radiator if water is collecting where you say it is, although it could just be a loose hose clip.

Hi RR - thanks for the feedback - so - anyone ever taken out rad before - whats the process?

is there anything special you have to do when topping up the coolant system again? any place that airlocks can get caught etc?

I'd put money on it being a crack in the top of the radiator on the passenger side

i can get a rad recon for about 150+vat but need yours as they re use your brass ends , i have done a cerbera rad be fore they arent nice to do but you can do it if it has aircon its alittle more tricky

Get it fixed as soon as you can as the last thing you want to do on a V8 cerbera is split the head gasket due to excessive heat or make it weak due to poor levels of antifreeze mix in the system, as its a 14 hour job to whip the engine out of the Cerbera V8 and sort it.

for the sake of the car get a new radiator and ditch the old one.

And what do you know about cerbs?...

Its a joke its a joke its a joke!!!!!! Blew an engine on a rover years ago because I was using it when I knew I had a leak, durr. Never ever again would I mess around and never with such an engine as a cerb.
