urgent help required!

I`ve just bought an alloy dash plate for the cerb.After reading the threads I`ve taken off the leather pod and most of the instruments and lights are out.The problem I have is the oil gauge it has a wire going into it surrounded by a spiral wire this seems to control the needles.How to you remove that wire from gauge??Help needed asap as the dash is in bits!

That may be a capillary tube linking the gauge to the engine. If so, it has to be disconnected at the engine end.
