Selling a Cerb

Just thought I would see if anyone else who is selling their car has had some real timewasters. People ask me the most stupid questions and have done no homework on the cost of running a cerb or any other tvr. I have not had my car long and as mentioned previously I am selling due to my car crash. The cerb is outstanding and I will miss her and I fully undderstand how everyone feels about their own car. I just wish that people would also understand that this is no ordinary car but a fantastic car. I am sure that any buyer will go into this with their eyes wide open. So if any potential buyer is reading this, DO YOUR RESEARCH.

couldnt agree more,
ive had one person view mine,and although a nice guy, the car was a bit out of his price range,he did tell me this before he came to see it but as it was local he just wanted to look at one,
ive spoke to several people on the phone some have been ok asking questions you would expect,one coming next weekend,who i am sure once viewed the car will want it.as for some of the other mupets ive spoke to on the phone,two people on two weekends said they were coming and never turn up,drives me mad,two weekends wasted because some people dont have the decency to pick up the phone,then you got the pond life that want to haggle over the price of the car when they havent even seen it.ive only advertised mine on ph so i dont get so many mupets.
the only good thing is i know once a serious buyer views the car they will buy it.
another thing makes me laugh everyone wants to know why your selling,and then you have to tell them everytime i mention the car my other half reminds me that i spent 6k of the new house deposit on a rebuild.OOPS plus the fact i park in the neighboures garage who is very old and very ill,so very sadly wont soon have anywhere to park
now thats made me feel a lot better

I'm still on the path of ownership, but have to factor in the existing Golf, which means timescales may not suit.
Anyway - as a (potential) buyer I always try to be as straight as possible. Certainly done/doing my homework though - thanks to everyone here for putting up with the questions!

phil the very fact you have made this post says to me you are not here to waste peoples time mate,as for the questions the more you ask and learn the better i think

Good good. Still working on the timing though. 2 main factors being:
i) Getting some hands on experience with Cerbs *jees*
ii) Selling/p-exing the current car (which I it turns out I overvalued by a grand it seems - oops - still thats straightened out now)
... THEN should be in the position to make an offer. There are a few around at the moment which are of interest, so I'm trying to move along at a steady pace

The one's who can't be arsed doing research, deserve a bit of Billy bullsh1t.
I'd be inclined to head down the "it cost tuppence a year to run" route, and waste their time by letting them sift through the paperwork.
From my experience of selling cars, I certainly wouldn't put off a prior engagement on the off chance they turn up.
If you've agreed a time, then you should be there to meet them, but I wouldn't put anything off for it.

I bought my Cerb almost exactly last year. At the time there were 60+ Cerbs available on Pistoneheads alone.
Why is it that one year later there are only 38 available and prices have fallen so steeply. It's the reverse of supply and demand. Even with the ups and downs at TVR H/O it does seem a crazy state of affairs.

I don't think prices are much different to normal. £2k P/a seems about right.
Sales wise, it's as usual, less Griffs for sale, more Tuscans, and double the amount if Chims.
There's been a couple of cheap 4.5's recently, that lasted less than 24 hours, so that should be taken as a positive.
My 96 Cerb was £16k in 2003...seven years old... I reckon that's like buying a 2000 Cerb now for 16k, and there's not that many about.

guys, the cars you mention - are they up for sale somewhere i can view ie on pistonheads or elsewhere?
reason being, im new to the TVR world and looking to buy a Cerb. funds should be through in 7-10 days and iv been looking for weeks as it is but i really want to make sure i get a good one.
mostly had Japanese cars in the past but feel its time to take a step to the TIV side after being out in my mates Sagaris! awesome car!!
let me know as im out for a good one and will pay good money to make sure i dont get one thats just going to cause me trouble

Its been stripped and rebuilt twice again since then
run in today after the last rebuild to hopefully the final spec. Shame that you are letting the car go, someones going to get a sorted motor for not a lot me thinks
. I notice you don't make much of the rebuild and its potential to a future owner i.e. I thought yours was basically a 4.5 now with standard 4.2 externals and currently making not far short of 400hp (390 or so
) and would with yet more money would easily make 430 if not more. I am thinking of selling mine. When I sold my last 2 TVRs I sold both to the first person that looked. Priced them right, honest description, great condition, fab history etc... No probs. MIGHT now sell the current one as we are looking at bigger houses that will take all my money until post grave. So my Cerb days could be numbered ! Sob !
I like to think a 4.5 with a rebuilt engine 1K ago (40k miles on car), a great big set of bills, great colour, nitrons, sports exhaust, spiders etc etc is going to sell well. But then again maybe I dont want to sell it.
