Melting boot carpets

Anyone else had trouble with the boot carpet melting in your cerb?
Just lifted the carpet in mine this morning and found some was scorched/melted, may have been before I owned the car??
The exhaust silencers are not that close to the body though. Wondered whether to use some heat shield either under the body or just under the carpet. Any thoughts appreciated?

A mate of mine melted his, but I have not, yet!
Looking under the car, there is a heat shield in place for the original standar silencer, but additional shields are not fitted to any car I have seen with sports silencers on, which are in a completely different place.
As a rule, I regard setting fire to the carpet adjacent to the fuel tank as a Bad Thing.
It is on my "really ought to do something about that sometime..." list

Wasn't this an unknown problem (i.e. custmoer development thing) on the earlier 4.2s, where customers found that their boot carpets were melting? iirc, the heat shield between the boot floor and the exhausts was a retro-fitted fix, and applied to the cars during manufacture.
If there's a problem with this shield then that might be giving you these problems, I suppose (or it might be what caused them in the past)

You got me thinking now.... dont think there is any kind of heat shield on mine (1997 4.2), have to look when I get home!

On my Cerb S6 -99 it is a heatshield for the back box. It is bolted in the chassi at the back end and then into the body above the back box, the shield doesn´t cover the heat from the end pipes. It is made of aluminium. I think this would fit any Cerb with the standard back Box on. On the pictures ive seen it seems to be the same box in the back.

This has happened to mine as well - normal driving is OK - it happened during a track day at Goodwood when some cans were bolted into the exhaust outlets in order to meet the noise regulations - I think this (and 140mph + down the back straight) led to a build up of heat and subsequent melted carpets.
