ok was going to just add this to the original thread, but thought it might get a bit confusing on there so I've started a new one.

a 'what to take list' (for my own peace of mind) feel free to add or delete if you don't think neccessary

For Sunday specifically:

At least one pair of clean pants for each lap I intend to do.
One crash helmet
One "in the face of adversity proof" sense of humour.
One clean credit card with big limit.

I think that this lot must be carried - Original Registration Document, Insurance document, GB Sticker, Warning Triangle if at an accident, bulb kit.

No Radar detectors, don't know about lazer, I presume not.

If they see it they'll take it.

not so bad now as many people have sta navs etc make detactor harder to spot.

edited to say, take all your docs, you may have to prove its your car when buying back from the Police!

Apparently you should have a spare driving licence for france. I know people that go to Lemans that have a spare each.

Don't forget the vehicle docs. I spent an hour on the German/Swiss border last year, as I didn't have the Log Book (V something or other).

Actually that has just reminded me, I was planning on assigning a private plate I just bought for the Cerb before the trip. Worry would be that the new updated V5 might not be back in time so I guess I better wait until after to do the transfer.

Photocopies not much good I think, Polarbert got stopped on the way to LM last year and tried to convince them to take a photocopy that he had taken, they weren't having any of it and insisted on the original (which he was legally obliged to have with him) so rather than be done for not having the original he finally coughed it up. He was informed he was banned from driving for 14 days and if stopped again he would indeed have not had a licence to hand over so would have been nicked. If you procure a "spare" (by way of advising the DVLA that you lost one) then you could take your chance and carry on driving because if you are stopped again then you will have a second licence to show/hand over. Of course you were still banned so you are still illegal to drive BUT the 2nd rozzer at the roadside won't know that and you would be out the country before they realised (if ever).
Least that is my take on it, less of a worry for you because you will have 2 in the car anyway.


Re new plate, yes have bought S8 CBY from the DVLA, meant to read as Speed Eight Cerby, might be a bit lame not sure but will see how it looks when on - was only £250 so thought it was worth a punt, can always flog it

So who has spoken to their insurers about the 'ring then? Im trying to pluck up the courage.

May go long the lines of 'off to Dusseldorf for the weekend, what if I fancy 1 lap of the ring while Im there?'

Am in 2 minds, if I speak and they say "no" then am jiggered for fighting it out later should I need to. If it is not excluded in their T&C's then I would prepare to fight it out on my return, on the basis that it is "just a toll road" and they didn't exclude it. The only way it might make a difference in advance is whether it would stop me going if I had no cover, as it wouldn't then I can't see the point in alerting them to it and giving them an opportunity to clearly say "you will have no cover".

I think Im going to just let them know Im taking the car to Germany on holiday and then pray to the Cerbera-driving Lord above

Anyway, I dont intend driving outside my comfort zone. The kamakaze lot can go as fast as they like, I'll just be on a 'spirited' Sunday drive

mannings do not cover the Ring.

nor do Sunninghill...or anyone else at the moment.

however, I'm sure that someone who is touring germany, and staying at a Hotel in Dusseldorf will be fine!

I would imagine anyone driving a TVR in Germany may have heard about the trip and have popped down to have a look...many do!
