Cerbera Acceleration problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please someone help having a nightmare with this car! Got a 4.2 and is running spot on apart from one thing. If I bury the accelerator into the carpet it revs to just over 5000rpm then bang the engine just cuts like its hit the rev limiter! Thing is if I accelerate very gradually it lets me go all the way to 7000rpm and even the shift light flashes and I get the beep. Got the diagnostic software and have plugged the lap top into the ECU and its set up just right but cant understand why its doing this? Its driving me nuts anyone any idea?

I'd suggest you take it along to a specialist - possibly one with a dyno, so you can safely replicate the problem with the appropriate diagnostic tools attached to the car.

I seem to remember something about the throttle reading too high. If it does the ECU treats it as a fault.

With the software connected and ignition on but engine not running bury the pedal in the carpet and see what throttle reading it shows.

IIRC full throttle is supposed to be 94%

Hi not sure if this will help my 4.5 had the same thing
it turn out to be one of CATs lose inside blocking the exhaust gases out. chris no cats now

I have something similar although she doesn't cut out but gets a bit rough. Progressive throttle and everything is ok. It only happens at 5k revs. Fernies told me that the HT leads breakdown and so new leads and plugs every service is required. I would of thought that she'd be rough all over the range if it was HT leads?

I've just had it serviced and she is better, but not totally cured. Interestingly, both my cats are loose and rattling? I was also going to try some injection cleaner and play around with some different fuels - currently running on Tesco 99 RON. Maybe the Octane is a little too high for her?

I'd be interested to know how you get on.

Had a similar although not exactly identical problem a while back - turned out to be the coil packs - breaking down under heavy load. It would allow full revs occasionally on gradual application but not a bootfull all at once!
