Steering Slack

My steering wheel will turn through about 1" from side to side before movement is translated into steering input which results in a change of direction.

Whilst I've had many cooking cars with at least this amount of slack or worse, my previous Chimaera had absolutely no slack whatsoever and the steering was noticably sharper.

Is this normal in the Cerb or should I be looking for some wear somewhere in the system?

Most likely to be the U-J that sits in the front wheelwell, where it gets blasted with muck all day long. Its a £50 part and not too difficult to replace.

Mine had about 1" of play, so i redid the uj's which helped, but still too much play in the wheel, so i removed the rack and low and behold it's f@cked, just sending it down to Greenwich to have it recond. will let you know how i get on.

This problem has been in threads of yore, if you can find anything via the search tool thingy (I never can...)

the top wheel bushes I think that is what they are called - the bits that hold the wheels on! get worn and leave a lot of play obviously worse at speed. just had mine done and the change was mayjor especially with reducing tramlining.
