WD-40 Electrical

Guys (and Galls)- I want to do some maintance on my windows and have seen lots of post suggesting putting WD-40 on the electrical connectors...yet I have always been told not to put WD-40 on electrics as it leaves and oil residue that hinder conduction...

does anyone have any advice...

this also goes for the big-fuse too - lots of people say cover it in WD-40

WD-40 is a water dispersant, to use if something is damp. It doesn't do cleaning.

Something like Servisol 10 is a contact/switch cleaner, and cleans contacts to improve their conductivity.

I think many people spray the BF with WD-40 when they really want to clean it (or replace it).

However, if the suspected problem is a damp BF then though I'm not any great expert, I didn't think that there was a problem putting WD-40 onto things (it just didn't necessarily do what was wanted).

I cleaned the connectors fr the window motor with WD40, disconected them, sprayed liberally with WD40, reconected them and they didnt work. So I took them apart and then cleaned them with a toohbrush (Oral B Medium flexi head) and tissue paper, reconnected and they worked.

The brief answer would be - No, dont spray WD40 directly onto electrical connections, spray the connections once they are cleaned connected to help disperse and keep out water.

And make sure the it is given plenty time to evaporate befor doing anything that may cause a spark.

electrical contact cleaner is best, spray it down the inside of the doors between the window and skin. hay presto windows go up and down on command. i last did min in october, and have kept dry all winter.
