Removing Bottom Hose Of Rad.

I had to admit defeat sadly this weekend in changing my rad - all cos I couldnt get the bl00dy bottom hose off. Top hose was fine, plus the mounts and fans. On the bottom hose, there is only about 10 inches of rubber hose before it meets the metal ones. I then got stranded as the bleed screw on the old rad snapped off, had to do some fabricating with a metal washer and some epoxy liquid metal - 10hours later car was back as it started arrghhhhhh. Do I need to take the water rails off to get the bottom hose off? or is there a trick I am missing? Would appreciate any help.
The trick is to allow it to get hot by running the engine. This will allow the tube to become more flexible.
Then you take a mole grip or clamp. Make sure you have covered the gripping part in cloth so as not to scratch or damage the rubber pipe.
Position the clamp in the middle of the hose and clamp tight. This will effectively squash the tube and shorten it at the same time. The tube will then fairly easily remove.
NOTE that stinkin hot water will be piddling and then gushing out during this. My appologies for insulting your intelligance with this sentence.
Refitting only involves as much vasolene/KY jelly as you feel comfortable to use as a man.

The metal pipes will be lardy, but they will dent/bend if you really give em stick and you will be disgusted by the amount of rust inside, and probably outside. A nice set of stainless ones might be a good idea. plus get some stainless jubilee clips.
I took all mine off sandblasted, painted and reconnected a year and a half ago and it now looks like I hadn't touched them.

jensena - Yup I will DEFINITELY take you up on a bit of hose if the offer is still ok........I'm all up for cutting off and replacing that short bit of hose, makes much more sense - I am ssure it will split anyway. I'll PM you my address! I think I'll be waiting for for my 12k service to be done before I splash out toom much more hard earned ;-)
