Throttle stuck down!

Hi All

Just wondering if others have experienced the same rather annoying incident. After some Vaux cavalier was trying to out do my Cerb on the sliproad I went foot down through to 5th gear., at !50mph when lifting off she decided to keep going. oh dear... Hard down on breaking bought it down a bit to drop a gear... but then fired off relentless. It released seconds later after tapping the pedal. Later, on a quieter road I tried it again to confirm a fault (call me mad) but sure enough, stuck down again. Short of spraying lube down the cable or replacing it, has anyone had the same problem? Hasn't happened again so the lube seemed to help.
Clutch feels like it's taken quite a beating now following the full throttle & full braking. Dammit!

It is possible your cable has become frayed. Little bits of wire can get caught and balls up your throttle - there are also a couple of springs IIRC - check these.

Erm - it took you that long? By about 2nd or third gear I've usually throttled off as they've got the point by then. With a cavalier it would have been 1st

The obvious culprit sounds like the throttle cable. Get someone to sit in whilst you feel the engine end of the cable - obviously with the engine off.

I would change the throttle cable anyway, its not worth taking the chance, next time it might stick open and stay there.... How scary is that

I found the cheapest and best option on a new cable was to buy a mountain bike cable.Nylon coated and superior brading to the original.All you then need to do is fit a stop on the end of the cable and crimp the groove over with a pair of pliers where the cable lies at the top end and your back in business.

Check the bolts holding the airboxes onto the intake manifolds. The one nearest the back can come undone, allowing the balled end of the throttle linkage to slip past it when the throttle is opened and get stuck on the way back.

YEP.... definitly check the bolt that holds on your airbox.... you just described exactly the same thing that happened me on track.... the throttle linkage gets trapped behind the bolt head because you have floored the throttle! in my case i stamped on the throttle and it became free. You need to check it first before changing cables etc.

Not just the pedal caught under the edge of the carpet is it? A mundane explanation but it's been known to happen.

Thanks for the replys. Its definately wasn't caught on the mat/carpet but that was 1st thought too. Sounds like a bike cable is the answer, nice! Yeh, it took longer than it should've, my ole girl needs to be looked at. Following a spirited drive up against with a Cayman iv run into problems with 3rd gear... only after overtaking the porker which also took too long...
