3rd sounding really ropey!

Hi all

Does anyone know what could be causing 3rd gear to sound really bad? All other gears sound fine, and engaging each gear is no problem at all, its just when driving in 3rd that it sounds like things are going to fall appart. The clutch holds fine.

any ideas most welcome!

Sounds iffy, especially as JensenA recently had his 3rd gear collapse. I'd get it checked asap.

Yeh, iv been avoiding using 3rd. TvrCP reckon its screwed up bearing so at least its not all a loss. Will need to drain the box oil and check for bits of metal, then should remove it, clean it out, replace the bearing (if i can find a replacement) and top-up with fresh oil. Certainly a massive task, specially without a pit or ramp.
Anyone done this before?

Had the gearbox off. So have quite a few on here. There is a useful rebuild manual, speak to 'biker' IIRR your best friend is a dirty great air hammer with a very big box spanner on the end.
