Rear Tyre Size 18" Spiders ?

Wondered what size rear tyres anyones using on 18" spiders. Looking at a car at the minute and i'm convinced the rear tyres are wrong size. Its got same size front and rear (225/35's), I've queried this, but the owner says 255/35's won't fit on the rear ( thought they were what the factory fitted ).

Anybody got any ideas ?

255 should be on theoretically, but as usual with Tvr it's not that simple. Spiders were a botch job when fitted to the Cerb even when put on as options by the factory. If it has a standard set of front and rear Spiders then they may have gone with a narrower tyre to avoid rubbing the rear arches (front and rear spiders run different offsets) - Some Cerbs are just about ok with front and rear, but the usual practice is to fit front Spiders all round, thus keeping offset the same for all 4 wheels (albeit 42 rather than 35 all round that was standard on the Cerb) - this also brings the rear wheels closer into the body and thus helps avoid the rubbing on the rear arches and 255 would be no problem here. My other question is, is it a Speed 6? I seem to remember that the S6 Cerbs ran 225/50/16 as standard all round so it could be the case that if it was upgraded to 18" wheels then it seemed right to go with the same width as was originally on there.

My road cerb has 255's on the rer and theyu fit fine. I think you can go up to 265 if your lucky.

Its a 98 4.2, I think the wheels might be a set off a Tuscan - could this have any bearing on it ?

Thats what I've done with my 17" aftermarket wheels on my 4.2. They're 8 inches wide and have an offset of 35mm. I've got 225/45x17 all round as per the speed six. So they may have gone for that approach with the 18" as has been suggested.

My rear tyres are also 18x35x255 (on spyders) & they are fine

I currently have 225/35/18 fronts and 255/35/18 rears. Toyo proxes.

Neil - Yes I think it might....I don't know thw definitive answer, but I'm sure I remember reading that the Tuscans have different wheels front and rear, and if you Fit Tuscan wheels to a Cerb, then you must use the Front wheels only (or vice versa). Does this jog anyones memory?

Yes this is right, as TC said. Tuscan fronts fitted all round the Cerb should allow you to go up to 255's on the rear. If you have tuscan rears fitted on the Cerb, then these will rub the arches with wide rubber.

Took the car to Ian at TorqueRVT (top bloke ) for him to give it alook over, he confirmed that they're the wrong size and also that they're "sh*t" SO-3's.
