So I'm getting annoyed with my wobbly exhaust due to busted fixing and have just left the car with the local Kwuk futters.

Now, subconsciously I know exactly what the mileage is on the tripometer. Is this a bad sign?

413.1 (nearly 2) burned into my corneas.

Anyway, not 30mins after I left it there (I work nearby) guy calls me on the phone and they have no idea how to get in.

I'm really worried now. I keep telling myself “it’s only a car with an exhaust, with bits from the ford parts bin circa 1989 (hopefully)”. But still I can almost hear the clutch crying in pain as they try and get it on the ramp.

I can’t concentrate.

Oh no what if they try and jack it up…………

Brave man. If I took my car to one of these places I would certainly have stayed with it!
Reminds me of going to ATS to get a battery for my Chimaera. They produced a battery:
ATS - 'would you like us to fit it sir? no charge'
Me (knowing its a hassle) - 'Er, yeah I guess - have you done one of these before then? I've heard its a hassle of a job'
ATS - 'yes sir, of course. can you pop the bonnet?'
Me - 'you haven't done one of these before have you...'
Anyway, I showed the bloke where the battery was & let him do all the laying on the floor undoing bolts etc. afterwards they tried to charge me 30 mins of labour as it was more than they'd bargained for.

Don't worry all will be just fine, apart from the cracked back screen due to jacking it incorrectly and then theres the extra 45 miles on the clock and 4mm of tyre tread missing and not forgetting when you collect it they tell you the clutch needs replacing (due to the donuts they did in the car park) as it we slipping when you bought it in sir!!!!

I take it all back.

they fitted an excellent new fixing replaced both the others on was bust the other ok.

let me look under the car, and showedme what had happened. Managed to get the exhaust flush with the body - more or less. One pipe they think is bent, if it had been a stock exhaust they would've warmed and bent it into shape. Mine is stainless steel and he was concerned ne would bugger it.

they even let me drive it off the ramp - and the cost of all this??? nothing not a sod, nought!!! To say I am impressed with the kwikkers in southend is an understatement.

I have a good rapport with the ones on the London Road by The Elms, they do a lot of "off the books" jobs for me at times, just little niggly things.

Though the first time they jacked the Cerb they had every 'mech in the garage under it marvelling at the H&S 'zorst and TVR chassis / coilovers.

Oh is it just me that thinks, why didn't they charge me.

Call me a pessimist, but I'd be looking for reasons they didn't charge me.

That's true - but i saw the work they did it was pretty good, new botls, new ironwork, rubbers, a lot better in my non-engineering opinion that the fixings that were used for the exhausts - which remember have snapped after only 6 months. (ok so I might have belted em bu IMHO the exhaust sat WAY too low for normal driving).

The thought of me standing in my pit at home tring to fabricate a mount for several hours of a weekend was not filling me with joy, to get them to do it for free was a real bonus in this day and age, + I saved £4,70 on my parking ! result.
