Anyone bought one recently from a crash/braker, to give me an idea on price.

Am starting to think I would rather like a 4.5 sitting around somewhere to mess with and get running.

I bought SprintV8's one from eBay for £1600. but that's a 4.2.

I know, having spoken to a few people that engines out there can go from £1500 upwards, even Ex-tuscan racer lumps can be had for less that £3K

From a breaker your more likely to be paying north of £5000 to get a 4.5

Well thats a bit of a range. Ex tuscan racer lump <3K. >5K in breakers yard.

Obviously want a 4.5 Red rose with virtually no miles on it for peanuts. But I assume somewhere the dream has to hit reality. Just wondered what the cost of the dream is?

Depends what ancillary's they have on them, ie inlets manifolds, bell housing. i think anything between 2500 to 4000

That's the problem Julian, there seems to be no consistancy of pricing for any s/h TVR bits, one moment you can get a set of inlets for £50 the next time you want them they're nearer £300.

I can assure you that my figures are correct, Bell Hill and Douglas Valley can virtually charge what they like as they have the market wrapped up as far as specialised breakers are concerned.

Talk to the indi's like APM and Austec, let them know you're looking and you never know you may get a call one day.

Good luck

Yep sounds like I need to put some feelers out. Can't think why they command high prices as it seems another Cerb bites the dust every few months due to high cost of repair/insurance writeoff.

Not exactly a sensible car for a kit project. So unless you have a Cerb that needs a new engine one wonders how they get sold?

I think i've still got a spare in the garage scratchchin i keep thinking about selling it but then i keep just looking at it :PORN: I'll let you know first if i put it up for sale. I've also got some spare heads too and keep dreaming about getting them ported etc and putting them on the 4.5

Tim - if you can source (complete) full race spec dry sumped 4.5 AJP8s for less than £3k then I will buy them. They might have been available for approximately 48 hours last week, but if you can find them now I'd be (very pleasantly) gobsmacked.

There always seems to be the odd person who managed to buy an engine cheap, but I suspect they are the exception rather than the rule. You'll probably also find that they acquired these cheap engines when an opportunity presented itself, rather than found them at that price when they desperately needed one. Bargains are always easier to find when you have all the time in the world - but a 4.5 from a breaker is upwards of £4k.

a standard mapped 4.5 not enough for your Griff? Blimey, you're madder than I thought thumbup

Keep us updated on the CRE rebuild, I'd be interested to know all the details for when the time eventually comes (hopefully no time soon, 70k miles and running strong!!) bounce

It seemed rude not to do the RR conversion,as the engine was being stripped and re-built anyway, though if your engine's still in the car Jamie still does the RR for far less than say TVR Power for example, and it it still done doing all the same alterations that Power advertise of course.Other than that the engine is just a std re-build,but using the better copper head gaskets.

It's very much in kit form, but for a cursary glance it all seems to be there, Guess I'll find the missing bits as I start putting it back together.

1600 is cheap even if it is in bits...and even if a 4.2 as well...as long as the bits are all there and not donald ducked !

4.5's with tidy cams are 4K plus.

If offered an ex Tuscan race engine for less than 4K then there is probably summit wrong with it.. or its actually of the early 90's 4.5 bored out Rover lump variety.
