Clutch Fluid, DOT4 or 5.1??
Discussion
Anyone used Halfords Clutch Fluid before? and if so do you use the DOT4 or 5.1?
I looked in the manual and it says to use Mobil Universal Clutch Fluid SAEJ1703. Halfords only have one universal which is DOT4 (and exceeds SAEJ1703) but ive noticed a couple of posts on here where some of you are using DOT5.1. Should I take my DOT4 back? I thought DOT5.1 was for cars with ABS?
Thanks in advance!

I'm using Wurth DOT 4 in mine for brake and clutch fluid and all OK.
However, if I were to take the Cerbera on the track then I'd be replacing it with 5.1 due to the higher boiling point.
With DOT 4 I've never had a problem even in the hottest days of summer, but then I do change these fluids every year for fun!

If you have not changed the fluid, its DOT6 in the Clutch and Brakes, costs a bloody fortune!
You should be thinking of one of these products.

Whilst on the subject... if changing from dot 4 to 5.1, what do you need to do in the way of flushing?
Do you pump as much of the old stuff out first, thus emptying the reservoir, and then just top up with new and flush through. I would hope the new stuff would be a different colour, so you know when it has run through the system.
A fellow Cerb owner suggested Automec silicone fluid, which is made for the US Military, apparently, when I had problems. I have not got round to changing over yet, but he swears by it.
On a slight tangent, has anyone ever fitted a different slave cylinder with a remote reservoir, so you can actually keep an eye on it? I came across such a thing in a catalogue which fell out of last month's Practical Performance Car, and thought it seemed a good idea.

As far as I know you should use the best fluid you can, so 5.1, it may be 4 in the book as this was the best when it was written.
Talking of silicone fluid, I thought all the seals in any system must be changed if going from mineral brake fluid to silicone fluid as the two don't mix and seals will leak after wards. Maybe someone else knows better.
